    Melting instrument cluster light lenses

Do you happen to have the P/N for the LED replacement?

    Melting instrument cluster light lenses

Curious about this as well. Mine aren't melted, but they sure do get hot. that's the downside to incandescent bulbs.

    Center console sketchup

Thanks for the feedback. The "holes" near the front are for drinks. No idea how big i'd make the slot there in the front, but was thinking that would be for misc stuff and I'd find something I could hard attach to top surface to hold my phone (like the windshield suction-cup mounts, but a base...

    12V bus bar

ok, next question: When you install a step down converter, where do you connect it? Straight off the isolator block and the positive terminal in the battery box

    Manual transmission in a HMMWV

In a traditional differential, your understanding is absolutely correct. With traditional open differentials, engine power goes where there is the least resistance, i.e. the slipping wheel. Using the brakes to provide "artificial traction" to the slipping wheel (the drivetrain doesn't know the...

    Manual transmission in a HMMWV

When I ready your initial post, all I could think of were my days in the Dodge Viper Club, where every now and again someone would inquire about putting an auto transmission into a Viper, usually because of a physical impairment that made running a clutch difficult. The responses were usually...

    Manual transmission in a HMMWV

According to that video (which is awesome) it is the slippage itself that transfers power to the non-slipping wheel via the spur gears. How is the application of the brake used to gain traction? I'm not understanding. That said, I had a manual Jeep Wrangler a few years ago. I did some rock...

    12V bus bar

I was just looking at those. So I'm no electrician, but these only provide the "hot wire" or positive wire distribution right? The ground to frame or body is always done locally?

    12V bus bar

I've been looking at the multitude of 24v->12v step-down converters out there and the one thing I keep wondering is what do you do when you want to drive multiple devices off of one of these converters. Has anyone built their own bus bar to be able to hook onto a 12V bus with ring connectors...

    Center console sketchup

I am planning to build a center console for my HMMWV and figured I'd take a shot modeling it up in sketchup. Anybody ever play with Sketchup before to mock up something like this? Here's what I came up with...very basic design, but it's a start and not necessarily to scale. If anybody wants...

Time for everyone's favorite game: identify this leak!

I wouldn't think grease would flow down onto the nut.

Time for everyone's favorite game: identify this leak!

It's hard to tell the viscosity from the picture..is it grease or fluid on the nut?

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

My airlift hood seal gaskets came in on Friday. That was my 5 minute project today to slap those on. I also started taking measurements to build my own center console. It's gonna be awesome.

Time for everyone's favorite game: identify this leak!

I'm a total newb, so i'm just trying to think through this....the only fluid in that area is the gear oil for the geared hub, right? And if the drive gear retainer is dry the only other egress points are the cover on the back side of the hub, or the output seal?

    I bought a 1998 Plan B M998 yesterday

I agree with your sentiment. Paint doesn't hide mechanical defects, but it definitely does "sell" better than the average 28 year old engine bay. If something in there is broken, it'll show itself regardless.

    I bought a 1998 Plan B M998 yesterday

I was a UH-1 mechanic for 6 years in the Army. I have the mechanical ability and most of the tools, but what I don't have right now is space to have a project truck torn apart in my driveway for long periods of time. I'm in Surburbia for another 6-12 months before we move out to the country...
