This is a great read on diesel additives. Well worth your time. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/76-speciality-forums/64-maintenance-fluids/177728-lubricity-additive-study-results.html
I've been trying to figure out this system as well. Is this summary of operation correct:
- The default condition of the clutch is "engaged" so when the engine is off the fan will not turn because the fan is "linked" to the engine via the clutch (and belts, of course).
- When the engine is...
Mine is a 6.5 GEP. I took it out for about a 30 minute drive today and it was idling at 30 PSI and operating around 50. Based on your input put im gonna call it good.
Gave my truck its first oil and filter change today and replaced the oil pressure gauge and sending unit with a Bosch mechanical gauge. Now I get to figure out why my pressure is so high.
My oil pressure gauge or sending unit (or both) were bad because my gauge would fluctuate between 60 and 90 PSI at idle. I removed both the sending unit and the gauge and just installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge that has a capillary line from the fitting on the engine to the back of the...
Yeah, i was just wondering if there was a particular discipline shop I should be looking for, i.e. transmission or someone who specializes in electrical motor repair. Thanks.
LOL...I did reference the manual above, so yeah. I found a new one on ebay for $400. Pretty pricey if a $100 rebuild...
Thanks, that's what I was thinking. I cracked the TM and it looks like the cover I would need to remove to inspect the flywheel is shown in 5-17. I'll save that for a bit though. Do you think it might be just a solenoid issue? I can replace the solenoid for $75 whereas the starter is $400.
Is there an inspection portal on the bottom of the trans?
So, crawled under there and looked...there is a drain hole in the bottom of the flywheel cover. Can I pull that cover off via the 6 or 8 bolts around it to expose the flywheel?
Ok, it's been sitting since yesterday afternoon without being started. I just went and measured at the negative isolation block and the positive terminal inside the battery box and got 25.4V. Each battery measured 12.75 and 12.6 volts respectively.
I will check that now, however this happens mostly when starting a warm engine where batteries have been getting charged by the alternator. On cold starts, it rarely happens.
ETA: When the truck is running, my voltage gauge sits squarely in the green, so I assume that my alternator is...
A couple of times when going to start my truck, the starter has not engaged the flywheel properly and I get that awful screeching noise similar to what you'd get trying to engage the started on a motor that's already running. Anyone experienced this or know what it might be? Is my starter...
I know in the car world, there is lots of debate about whether it's best to start a car and let it idle to warm up, or just start it and drive smoothly at low RPMs to bring the engine and drivetrain components all up to temp together.
In the diesel/truck world, do these things need to sit and...
I have a Plan B rig. The top and rear are nice. The doors are decent but yes the window design is not optimal. They're integrated into the door, so it would take some serious modification to swap them for something else. They don't open very far and thus air flow inside the truck is poor even...
