I'm in no hurry, don't sweat the small stuff. BP medecine is not great either, side effects are irritating to say the least.
However, they keep you on the right side of the grass........
Maybe not so bad after all.
Berg has some used tubes that came in some of the tires. I brought 5 home. 1 has a destroyed valve stem, another a leaking stem. 3 are good. I only plan on using the used ones with some skins to get a truck home. If I am mounting good tires, I use new tubes. If the flaps look OK, I reuse them...
What's a little radiation among friends? As many X-Rays as I've had, I glow in the dark anyway. I didn't figure it was easy to get the gauges apart, I may try the plastic polish route.
has anyone replaced the lenses in their gauges? Most of mine seem to have a polycarbonate lens that has yellowed a good bit over the years. The only one that is clear anymore is the speedometer, and it is fogged up internally!
Also, can the lenses be easily changed?
I have been at his place. He had about 2500 tires at the one warehouse, and 5000 at another. He has tons of the 1600R20's, and 1100 20 NDT's. Humvee tires out the yazoo. He's a really nice young fellow. His Mom owns the business (minority owned) so they have a good contract with Uncle sam. they...

SNAFU is an old military term. Systems Normal, All Fouled Up. Sometimes "Fouled" is replaced with a slightly less delicate term.....
Glad you got your buggy going. What is your diesel fuel/used motor oil recipe?
Can you post some prices? If I decide to go with synthetic oil, I would just soon buy from a member as not. Do i read correctly that you are not using synthetics in the gearcases?
Back in my college days, I worked as a mechanic to put myself through school. The only engines that had significant end play in the cranks were those with a manual tranny setup. The pressure of releasing the clutch is taken up by the thrust bearings on the crank. the bearing will be worn on the...
Mineral spirits shouldn't be an issue, it is similar to deodorized kerosene, maybe a little faster evaporation rate. It is also quite clean. I am interested in the used motor oil bit, I have a buddy who is the chief mechanic at an ambulance service. I can get nice, clean, used Delo 400 oil from...
Sorry it took so long. I have some brand new "Titan T-Hawk" military OZ tires. The tread depth at the middle, right next to the center rib, is 9/16". Other brands may be a little more or less. If yours are a little deeper than 3/8" or so, you are at about 75%.
Hope that helps.
Does this engine index off the thrust washer? Or is the center main bearing a thrust bearing? Most engines I have worked on have the center main with a built on thrust surface. I worse came to worse, and you do have to replace the front thrust washer, you should be able to loosen off the main...
I bought mine from an individual in Montgomery Al. and drove it home. He had been driving the truck once a week for several years, so i was not worried. I had my little Beer Can truck on a towbar, so I always had a backup means of locomotion.
I know a guy who put several years in Hawaii. He said the trucks over there are really rusted out. He spoke of holes rusted through frame rails, and non existant floors.
I'm going to cheat on my truck. i have a $3500 electrostatic spray gun at work that I can use. The gun charges the paint at 45000 volts (5 microamps). You ground your truck with a heavy copper wire to a ground rod and have at it. It really makes spraying the underbody easier, the paint "wraps"...
I am also curious about using synthetics. One of the list members (can't remember who) is running all synthetics. Said fuel mileage was around 14mpg with that combo.
We ran 8V53's and some 6V53's. The 6-71's didn't seem to be as much of a problem. We didn't have the running backwards problem on the boats, no way for that to happen. I could see that happening on a truck.
The emergency shut down on a Detroit was to kill the air supply to the mill. This was needed if the blower oil seals let go. The engine would run on motor oil until it ran out, at which point the engine was toast. The engine would run away at high RPM, burning hot oil. We had this happen on an...
