The reason the Jeep company went away from these axles was two fold.
1) They were much more expensive to produce.
2) They were not as strong.
All my earlier experiences with these joints in the old Willys Overlands were poor. They were usually badly worn, and impossible to repair. If the...
Many military vehicles spend long hours idling. The hour meter is a good way to keep track of things.
I buy military NDT 9.00x20's for $20-25 each. The old M135's and M211's were gas burners with automatic transmissions. There are a couple on E-Bay every week or 2, don't seem to bring nearly as...
Popping one rear axle shaft, or pulling the interaxle driveshaft will probably help turning as much as anything. I didn't realize how much until I turned around in a parking lit that was covered in sand. The rear tandem broke free and the turning effort and radius dropped significantly. Since...
I was wondering about cruising speed. On the multi fuel engine, do you want to keep the hammer down and sit on the governor? A detroit likes to be driven that way. Some others do not. I don't want to kill my engine by either staying too low, or by revving too high. My deuce just seems to like...
Darn!
I was hoping for the never emptying fuel tank! Oh well, back to the old drawing board.......
I am heading down to pick up your doors next week. When I get down your way, it will be like Christmas for you!

What year is your truck? If you are running an air shift, you shouldn't have any issues with front hub unlock. As long as the front drive is disengaged, there should be no tension on the hubs. As for the rears, just take an old 4X4, lock in the hubs, put it in 4wd. and get on pavement. You...

If you have an air shift transfer case (you should, in a '75), there is no advantage in removing the shaft instead of unlocking the front hubs. You can install Selectros, ($550 a pair or so), or you can get a spare set of front drive flanges and having the splines machined out. That has...
If your volt meter shows a drop down to 22 Volts, you have a bad battery. You can take the batteries to an Autozone, or Advance Auto Parts and they will load test them for you. More than likely, one of them has a weak cell. This is the lesser of the evils by any standard, batteries are easy to...
You may have fried a battery. Sounds like you don't have enough juice to engage the starter solenoid all the way. Have you checked all your connections on the batteries?
Sounds a lot like mine. 2000 to maybe 2200 is easy cruising. I just didn't know if mine was different from everyone elses trucks. Mine is running 1100R20 singles, so I thought that might be the issue.
I went the week of the Masters Golf Tournament, Augusta was rough. After that, it was not a bad trip. I drove my little Nissan (Beer Can) pulling a trailer.
What RPM does everyones truck like to cruise at? Mine really likes 2000 RPM. It feels like I really have to get on it to cruise at 2500, but it will run down the road all day at 2000.
2000 feels like it is at a sweet spot in the torque curve.
Anyone have a torque curve for the multifuel?
I had a fellow who spent some time in the Army in Hawaii in the '80's relate a funny story. They would introduce the new deuce drivers to the trucks, Hawaii style. Most of the trucks were run with no tops, so the old hands would loosen the stack clamp and turn it towards the driver. They would...
I believe the X stands for non-standard wheel base on the trucks. Kenny Engle will know for sure, but he is in Aberdeen.

What is the secret of the fuel tank that never empties?
Pllleeeease!!!!!
You would probably want 2 hubs. With a spool, you would still have full torque going to the stock axle. It would steer and drive like it does now, but put all the strain on the stock axle.
You could spool both axles and run 3 selectros, on the highway you would be a 1X6. Probably not a good...
