Painted Today
I just primed my M101A1 today. It was media blasted to bare metal yesterday. It took 2 quarts of epoxy primer to do everything except the bed underside. We stripped the entire frame, springs and axel. Based on that, 2 coats of paint with a conventional gun will take a gallon...
No luck with heat or freezing. The "new" impact tips are now made in China and they bend right away. Tool steel does not bend, it breaks. More China junk.
So, may need to look at taking the entire hub off and setting it up for drilling it out and/or welding a nut on it. Either way, a...
Good Info
I got 11 of the 12 hub screws out using an impact driver this week. However, one remains. I broke 2 tips and one driver and no luck. I'll try heating with the torch and if that fails I may try welding a nut to it. The 11 that came out are not rusted so it baffles me why they get...
Checked today. Looks like the cable. I disconnected it at the speedometer and drove out the farm lane at a slow rate. The cable would start and stop and I could stop it from turning with my fingers for awhile. :(
I would assume it should turn steady even if just creeping along.
Can the...
Being new to the M37 (except driving them in the Army way back when) and lacking manuals at this time, I can't see how the front swing out windows (windshields) come off. I am taking the truck apart for painting this fall and the window frames need repairs. I did a search here and nothing came up.
OK, there we go. So wherever there are connections, you have these inserts. Are they also in the Douglas connectors where they attach to sending units, gauges, etc.? I guess I'll pull some apart tomorrow and take a look.
I made the decision to rewire the entire truck during the restoration. Vintage wiring says on the M37 you must reuse your 1 to 1 and 2 to 1 connectors. I'm assuming these are Douglas "splitters" and "gender changers" used someplace on the vehicle.
Can someone tell me where these are so I...
A few ;pictures from today.
A few pics before I start cleaning her up. Not much body work but any touch-ups will require a complete paint job as nothing will match. Probably no work on it till winter and spring.
Manuals
I have many on my web site and MANY more in my collection here. Also, there is a new site at www.liberatedmanuals.com
My site is www.rattrig.com and go to the manuals page. If what you want is not there, ask.
It's not here yet but next week we will be taking the rollback to Pittsburg to pick up a 1953 M37 and adding it to the collection. Over the winter we will disassemble and get it ready for paint and any repairs. It will be restored to 129th Sig Bn configuration. It is, as best I could tell when I...
I am looking for an M37 to mount my latest shelter project. We had GRC-46 shelters (S-144) on both the M-715 and M-37 when I was in the Army Signal Corp. I have looked at a few M-37 examples in my local area and discovered I don’t remember how the tie-down cables for the shelters attached to...
