Normally I would try to restore to as perfect to stock as possible. I am taking my 1953 truck apart and many of the rusted and corroded bolts I have found are like in the picture, recessed heads. Are these the original? They are not available anymore so regular hex heads will have to be used.
Vendors
I'm late to the party but Hypalon wire is available from Belden and is sold by vendors by the reel. Of course the vendors, like Allied Electronics, only sell in 100' minimum reels, and it is expensive. Maybe the other folks mentioned sell by the foot. I bought reels when I did my...
It was plastic media blasted. Expensive process but it does not "open" the steel. The metal remains smooth, not rough like sand or grit blasting. It seems the old markings etch the steel over time. I found the same type of numbering in the steel when I blasted my M-715.
The M37 I bought this summer has NO weatherstrips on the doors. Over the winter I will be taking it apart and getting ready for restoration in the spring. However, there is a listing on E-PRAY now for weather striping but I have no idea if it's correct. Can anyone add any input?
Listing is...
No Luck for years
I need one cable for the 101A1 and one handle. Been looking for years. Seems strange they are not around. Cables for the A2 are out there but no A1's or handles. I just picked another trailer and it had two brand new cables anbd handles so maybe after all the 101's are...
No Expert
I'm no expert on older jeeps. I drove an M38 in the Army and it looked like all the rest to me. In fact, I have a few pix posted here in old posts of me and "my jeep" in 1967. We also had a few M38A1's but those I could see the difference. Then along came the M151 and those I know...
Our local "overstock" stores had thousands of die cast models for $4. I bought a bunch of these of what I think is the M38 jeep. All the box says is "Jeep, Willys" Great detail, metal and only $4!!
Thanks
As I assumed then, the bayonet end is always the male. I started ripping out the old wiring and it mostly holds out to the drawings. I think the problem I had is that I have 4 different drawings and they contain errors as well as different schemes. If I find an error, I check the...
Yes, this is true but as mentioned in the post above, but in Douglas Connectors both ends are "male" (pins or plugs) and joined by a removable butt connector or sleve in the middle. The only difference in either end is the bayonet on the outer shell.
All the old drawings for M37's and the like show a "male", (with the X in the box) and "female" end for the Douglas connectors. They have to be referring to the metal shell as the inside pin is the same on both ends, unlike the Packard connectors. I would have to assume the shell with the...
My M101A1
When I got my 101A1 in 2009, it was recently painted CARC (2008 date) and had new tires and tarp. Not a scratch on it and it was freshly undercoated also. No VSE tag.
Just Finished Today
Today I installed the side racks and the trailer is finished. The trailer was media blasted, epoxy primed and painted. The hardest part was stripping and repairing the wood side rails. Old paint was stripped and new wood added where necessary. The old wood really soaked up...
Got one of them
I bought another M101A1 in the Meade sale that ended yesterday. Paid $318 which is higher then I paid at Letterkenny. The Letterkenny and Mechanicsburg sales usually have many for sale at the same time which thins the bidding.
Somewhere I saw a weather strip for sale that said it was for the M-37 to fill the gap between the filler pipe and the body. Was there such a strip/part? None on my truck and I don't see it in the parts book.
Markings from 1968
This is my M101A1, just out of my shop a few weeks ago. The markings were found under the newer paint and were etched into the bare steel. I remarked it, except for the unit, exactly as it was when built. Not shown is a 9" star on the curb side front centered up and down...
I'm sure this has come up a few dozen times but doing a search did not produce positive results. Is the M37 frame, from the 50's, black or OD? Gloss or flat? Does the frame color extend out to the front bumper if black?
