So tonight I was trying to install a cigarette lighter, and rushed it after I didn't get a reply to my query on here. I checked all of the supposedly available 12v openings on the fuse box with the truck running, and none of them had any power. Then I tried running the lighter from the v-meter...
Where were you 2 weeks ago! Gah! I paid a guy $120 for a Light-Duty take off from a '93 van on craigslist. Guess it was worth it to get it running, and not pay shipping, but ouch.
Mason- I'd put an IP on (really a pretty easy job, esp w/2 people) and put it up for around $2-3k on a civvy...
In Iraq we ran out of paper rolls (no kidding!) and so we used manila envelopes and file folders. Then we ran out of those. For flat areas we ended up just having to tape the metal stencils on and then put them in the solvent tank (plenty of that stuff) when we were done. Thanks for the post!
REVIVING AN OLD POST:
So, let me get this straight, to install one of those little $4-5 cigarette lighter kits in the CUCV,
1. Get a length of 10ga wire.
2. Crimp a female space to attach to the male spade on the lighter element.
3. Run the line to the fuse box.
4. Cut to length and crimp a...
So, I finally got the M1009 "legal". I've been fine driving on base, but get a bit nervous out in town. Have had the local PD, Sheriff and HP all follow me, pass and wave/salute, but didn't want an incident in the event of an accident.
Got license plates today and then had to figure out how...
I'm no expert by any means, but there are really only about 3 categories of problems with regard to starting, and this really is for any vehicle. You have to have fuel, fire/ a source of combustion, and a source of ignition.
1. It could be an issue with fuel delivery. (e.g. Injector pump...
Yeah, we're doing that with the largest portion of our return each year. Just want to try and head off any potential problems with the truck before they happen. Since I'm relying on this for my daily driver i need to be sure it doesn't crap out on me. Granted, it may do that anyway; even new...
So my buddy who helped me with the IP install has a M1008 he's stripped down. Basically he's just using the body. He put in a 350 gasser, going to refinish in blue, etc. Got it out of a salvage yard where the windows were broken out and rained in, etc. So he has a GP relay and a GP controller...
i would love to do those, and probably will, but those are mostly cosmetic, and I'm looking at engine and systems function mostly. Honestly, the turbo is a low priority for me as a cost item. The truck runs fine and has enough power for what i need.
Also, I would love to rhino-line/Line-x...
So, I'm trying to plan ahead for when I get my tax refund (I have 3 kids, so I get a nice one :-D.) The wife and I agreed to dump about a grand into the truck to keep it ship shape. I can always do more, and have budgeted about $200/mo in maintenance costs, since i don't have a loan payment...

Check the wiki for the M1009. I pulled the info out of the TMs and gleaned opinions from members on here with regard to non-TM info, and posted it there several months ago. Most, if not all, of this is covered in the Lube Order, though.

Okay, so I went back and found the pics I took clear back when I first tore the thing apart and rotated the vacuum pump back to where it was before. Still not sure if this matters, but I did it anyway. Then I adjusted the vacuum regulator/modulator thing on the psgr side of the IP. It was...
Also, do I need to take the truck in to a shop to get the timing checked after a new IP install? It isn't racing or dragging and sounds about like it did before. The idle may be a tad higher but I always thought it seemed too low before.
So, I spent a good 4-5 hours today working on the M1009. It's been parked since around April, due to a bad Injector Pump and my lack of time or money to fix it. Long story short, I got an IP off a guy on Craigslist, got the right tools for the job, and swapped pumps. After just 2 or 3 turns...
Just noticed you're in Hobart. I spent the first 9 years of my life in Lake Station. I know the area well. A lot of my folks' friends lived in Hobart. Think most have passed on now, though.
Thanks for the post. I plan on changing these belts out probably next month. You know, once it...
