Yes, all the ones I have seen have a fender mounted heater on the drivers side, guess there was no room under the hood, and looking at the space or lack of I can see why that was the best bet.
I was fortunate enough to acquire this just before winter, always liked the look of the M37 so when this came along I could not resist.
Was just finished after a 3 year frame off restoration and complete mechanical rebuild.
It was and always was a USMC truck, during the restoration an analysis...
As you say, it has rubber track pad BUT they are molded into the track and cannot be replaced. Once worn down you are on the grousers. My leading edges are down to the metal, the pads are wedge shaped, thin end to the front. I have 3 spare sets of track but will probably try for another year on...
Thanks all for the comments.
The trailer is an Econoline 12-ton tilt equipment trailer. The Scorpion scales in at around 16,500lbs, the trailer weighs 6,500 so just in the 24,000lbs GVWR limit on the trailer.
I used the 5-Ton for a year, it worked but hill climbs were not a lot of fun and down...
Well this is the second one that failed over the last 12 months.
So, replacing with a bigger 12V 160A rather than the 100A alternator and ditching the transformer rectifier fiasco with a 12v to 24v converter.
What did you end up buying?
Did you get the demil sorted out re your other thread?
Including Stuarts I know of 3 Scorpions on the West Coast, his, one in the Bay Area and the other owned by a good friend of mine in Northern CA.
Now you need to start getting a pile of spares, track, running...
The Form-6 covers the whole vehicle. As previously stated by B3.3T and as per the Form-6 for my Scorpion, breach is to be cut in half (vertical plane) with a torch having a tip of minimum 1/2", a hole is to be cut in the barrel high pressure chamber that is a minimum of the caliber of the...
I used to haul my Scorpion behind my M923, it worked but the 250 Cummins on a long hill climb sucked and no Jake brake on a long down hill was no fun either. Ended up getting an M915A1, removed the 5th wheel and put a deuce bed on the back (I have a pintle trailer.)
Took the M915A1 and Scorpion to a local truck show yesterday.
Local National Guard Unit showed up with this:
Oshkosh M1142 TFFT Tactical Fire Fighting Truck, never seen one before let alone climb all over it.
M1142 Tactical Fire Fighting Truck (TFFT)
The M1142 Tactical Fire Fighting...
Here is my setup I use to transport the Scorpion, M915A1 'Trucktor' with a 12 Ton Tilt trailer, combo weighs in around 44,000lbs.
I used to use a M923 5 Ton but the 250 Cummins really struggled on the hills, the 400 in the M915A1 is a different story.
Went to help at the Hanscom, MA, homecoming parade last week, ended up with these in the back of the truck:
2004, 2007 and 2013 World Series Trophies
Suckers weigh 28 1/2 lbs each, look but don't touch!
I had the option to buy a Fox when I purchased my Scorpion, in some way I wish I had BUT the spares and complexity was a worry. Just like a Ferret, that is not a clutch peddle as B3.3T points out and unfortunatly most people have never seen let alone driven a vehicle with a preselect gearbox...
My Jake Brakes have died and I believe it's likely the switch on the throttle linkage at the PT or a bad connection on the peddle switch, have not had any time to work on the issue.
I did however find the following document which is very informative and useful, enjoy.
