One day straight out, having the M936 was the best part along with a friends metal fab shop and the press brake to punch the holes and make the clips.
And SS member Vintage Irons expertise and mechanical abilities, hey I am just a nerdy IT guy!
Kept the the 5th wheel to sell rather than mount in the bed which I have see done, add some complexity and it can end up being to high.
Dan,
Still hauling the tank but only needed the Pintle for the trailer.
The bed overhangs the back frame about 20" so some brackets were fabricated along...
When I acquired my M915A1 I was told the odometer was only recording at a rate of about 1 mile for every 4. Well a few weeks ago it gave up completely. Looking around there were no direct replacements to be had so I opted for a M911 C-HET version.
Only mod I had to do was replace the 24v bulbs...
This looks like a winner, I have 2 new ones in the basement, will go compare the measurements:
And here's the military one:
Outside Dia 7 3/8
Length 18 1/4

Looks likes there is a John Deer that may work for you.

UPDATE:
Found this for you, the first group of the two is I believe the Gage Code (Supplier...
Up until 1981 there was no standard format for VIN's. After that the 17 digit format was introduced. So at the registry if the vehicle is 1981 or older the computer will accept any lenght VIN. After that a short VIN requires a supervisor at the registery to 'overide' the system, I think all they...
Also, the level winders are prone to having seized rollers and pulleys due to lack of use, check em out and keep them well lubed and used once a month at the very least.
I wonder how many actually get lubed in service, I suspect few and even fewer in civilian hands!
I love the M915A1 that Mad Max looking grill and hood is the best!

On my M936 the thread in the drum was stripped hence that's why the cable came out. I had some set screws that had pointed ends so drilled the drum either side of the original hole and used 2 of the new set screws. Figured the pointed ends would drive into the cable and help it stay in!
Also...
eBay and they are not cheap, BIN was $177 ea with free shipping, that's about the cheapest I have seen them. Just figured I would do it right and then I am done.
Unlike the M939 series, the M915A1 has 'wet' hubs as in oil filled.
The front axle has a regular commercial style filled hub with a sight glass etc.
The rears are 'sealed' from the outside, to fill these, the differential has to be filled to the correct level and then the truck needs to be...
My fan clutch had seized making the fan run even when the engine was cold. Matt (ironmatt72) freed it up but is was obviously in need of lubrication. What's not obvious is that there is a grease fitting tucked away on the bottom, offset on one side, number 26 below:
TM's are just wonderful...
I did the swap with that in mind as well given the story's on SS of the melted switch!
I also replaced the rear brake / turns with KC Highlights LED's, standard Jeep etc part, makes a big difference.
I have the front indicators to swap out, have a pair of LED's meant for a Peterbilt but are an...
The stock headlights were terrible, replaced with Truck-Lite Phase 7's. These work great as the truck is mostly 12V these are readily available.
Now I can see at night.
Martin.
Decided to upgrade the M915A1 and get some real wheels and tires, FMTV rims with 1400 NATO Tread tires:
Thanks to my friend ironmatt72 over at A&H Recon, Falmouth, MA
The Form-6 as you know does not really deal with age but what it is you are importing. The EPA forms all reference 21 years or older at least for engines (I am about to bring a spare J60 Jaguar engine in from Canada that's 1970's vintage) and the DOT forms all say 25 years or older for vehicles...
Well I be ****ed, an approved Form-6 was just delivered, received by ATF 11/25/13 and back today, pretty much bang on the 60 day's as advised. Yippee!
All my stuff comes under Implements of War (IOW).
