    Fair Price ???

I bought a couple of 6.2 takeout from G.L. for $150 each in the cans, a few months back. They came without starters or alternators & glow plug wiring harnesses but were otherwise complete. Kinda like buying a pig in a poke, but I just wanted them for spare parts & because I've never rebuilt a...

    Transfer Case Slippage

John ... I didn't take any offence at all to your post. I just don't like to assume anything, because I ussually wind up looking like a fool. I'm just happy to be able to respond in a helpful way with some real-world experiance that actually happened with me. I'm not much at giving out...

    Transfer Case Slippage

You don't say what vehical it is or what t/c. I'm asuming it's an oh9 with a np208. I have the same thing happening with my civi 82 long fleet 4x4. It has a np208 with over a 1/2 million miles. You are correct with the fork being worn. At least thats my problem. Any panic stop, or sometimes just...

    Solargizer

I don't know hoss.... if a 24 volt won't hold up.. what makes you think a 12 volt will?? I'd look around in your area for a good rebuilder. Probably just got a couple of chineeze made lemons, but hey.... I'm new to this 24 volt stuff myself, but value the experiance of all the knowledgable guys...

    38'' tires

I've got 39" michlins 11.00 R 16s on my M1009 with a 6" lift (came that way... long story) & it's plenty of lift. (truck in my avatar) The turbo 400 will be just fine. It's darn near bullet proof. The weak point is the corporate axels with 3.08-1 ratio. I just last week bought a M1031 with 4.56-1...

    Electric fuel Pump install?

WOW... you guys are good. I'm used to having to come up these little upgrades, experiment till I get it right & come up with these little solutions on my own. Just another big chunk-o-work you guys saved me. Another upgrade to add to the list. Times two now as I just picked up a M1031...

Where was your CUCV built at?

Even back in the 80s all of the wiring harnesses & most of the electrical components for the pickups, blazers & suburbans came from mexico. (the only ones I had direct knowledge of... probably most models) Meanwhile... within 100 miles of me in the appalation mountains here in KY. theres kids...

    EUC fast!

I don't think so.. I've had 5 different F.B.I. background checks in the last 18 years, & my first E.U.C. took 9 weeks to clear, second one took 4 weeks, & the third one took 12 days. It seems to depend on how busy they are at Battle Creek, & just luck of the draw. Although it does seem like the...

    Steering Box

SHOOT.... I thought for a minute there you were talking about real money. rofl I went on a caraboo hunt, way up in quebec near the artic circle about 25 years ago. This good ol boy was with us, & for about the first three days of taveling, everytime he asked for a price on something he seemed...

Where was your CUCV built at?

I don't think so. he's lived in Howell Mich. all his life. He's 27 years old. Thats about 1/2 way between Lansing & Flint. (About 100 miles) Now he didn't go to colledge , but I'd bet my life that he can tell those two cities apart. rofl After 36 1/2 years I sure hope he retired on his own...

    One wire alt. Question

I've been doing alot of studying about the cucv electrical system here lately, & have a question for some of you, more electrically inclined individuals than me. (I don't know much about electrical systems & I can prove it) I've been restoring & hotrodding chevy trucks for quite a few years now...

    somebody let the smoke out

Well.. I made a forray into town yesterday & bought two ten foot long rolls of fusible link wire. 12 gauge & 16 gauge. It was less than $10 total. I always was under the wrong impression that the fusible links were the big dia. black rubber covered connectors. I'll chalk this little incident up...

Where was your CUCV built at?

It could very well be (shoot he was born when I worked there) as I was just going by what he told me the last time he came down to visit with me (about a month ago) & he was probably mistaken about witch plant was witch. I haven't been back to Mi. in 15 years or so. I'm just an old country boy...

Where was your CUCV built at?

Yeh .. I guess they could be considered the "GOOD OLD DAYS". My youngest kid (hes 27) said one of his buddies is on a crew demolishing that plant right now. A 5,OOO,OOO square foot ASSY. plant... WOW... In the famous words of Bob Dylan..... THESE TIMES.. THEY ARE A CHANGING . :shock...

Where was your CUCV built at?

I was a layout inspector (skilled trades & 1 of 2 on second shift) at G.M. Truck & Bus Flint ASSY. at Van Slyke & Atherton Rd.s in Flint Michigan from 1983 thru 1988 & worked hand in hand with the govt. inspectors. They made p/u trucks on line 1 & blazers & suburbans on line 2. About every 10th...

    Spicer u-joint's

While were on the u-joint conversation.... I just replaced the u-joints on my 82 civi. 1/2 ton gmc 4x4. After 29 years & over 1/2 million miles, the original non-greasable factory u-joints finally wore out & needed replacing. (the factory ones were held in with injection molded plastic instead...

    somebody let the smoke out

I would sure love to. It would be great to meet all you guys in person. I don't have any doubt that I'll have my M1009 & my M1031 up & most all of the bugs worked out by then. At my age you only buy magazine subscriptions... 6 months at a time. :-P But (good lord willing) I'll be there, with a...

    somebody let the smoke out

THANKS WARTHOG... i've always taken the attitude that just because I haven't done some particular thing... doesn't meen I can't. I will defeat this big green sucker & learn to do everything myself. I've restored or hotrodded 12 67-72 p/u & blazers since 1985. I stuck with them because I...
