That depends on the paint remover. Here is another step I do. After coating the dataplate with paint remover (if your plates were painted over like mine) use sawdust as an abrasive to removed the loosened paint. That way nothing wears down you raised letters on the dataplate. The added bonus is...
This all depends on the condition of your data plates. Years ago I had success redoing data plates and wrote an article for Military Vehicles Magazines. The article was also republished in the M37 Restoration Guide. A soft cover book put together by David Ahl and produced by MVM.
If your data...
I was trying to follow up with helpful posts based on my experience. I hope my experience can actually help someone else work thru their title issues.
If someone thinks my posts are worthless that is unfortunate. I never expect to bat 100%
My questions on another SS thread provided the help I...
The VIN in the title now matches the VIN stamped into the frame instead of the bogus Ordance number.
See post #1 The data plates were missing when I was given the truck. What I now have all matches.
Eventually I will get a new data plate and get it stamped with the VIN that is on the title and...
I got my M37 title
dan foukes
here are my rules:

I followed thru with comments on another SS thread that I can't find right now. People on that thread were actually helpful and suggested another "better" way using Dan Foukles. On April 20th I sent him the information and later paid him $100. I received a regular Michigan title with serial...
I have disk brakes all around on my M37 from Ugly Truckling. I have no proportioning value. I can lock my brakes up any anytime. With my diesel conversion I can stop well from 65 MPH. Something I could never do with the stock brakes.
The answer depends. If you still have all the fording equipment (lines) hooked up then it shouldn't damage anything. However if the vent lines are capped off or plugged it could cause you fuel starvation problems. What I did was get a cap that can be vented or changed to unvented. Then it...
Sorry I turned around from another discussion thread where someone was asking about putting lift handles on the trailer tongue. They had seen some on a trailer and that it was original equipment. I guess you didn't ask that question here in this thread even though I answered it. Hope this didn't...
Let me jump in and try to help. If you do not have a surge brake and the trailer is a 3/4 ton then I suspect you have an M116 or an M116A1. Those have the solid lunette mounted to the tongue and yes they do need a nut to hold the lunette ring/shaft to the cast bracket bolted to the trailer...
I think the position is marked on the inside of the cap. If all else fails pour PB Blaster inside the cap and see if it leaks. if it does then the vent is open. It might also free up the valve.
Yes on your gas cap, the spring is inside in the center and you typically turn it 1/4 turn to move from open to closed. It should always be on open except when fording so that the gas tank can breath.
Now the fuel filller neck - these were typcially not painted inside but rather galvanized of...
That is what I did for My M37 so they look a lot like the original Budds except back spacing is a bit more (1/4-3/4 inch) so the wheel sticks out a little further. I had mine done at Stockton's in CA but somebody said they just went out of business. I looked at the website and it seemed like...
Wow nice looking M37 and other models. So obviously you don't make plastic pieces from scratch? or do you? How did you build it from scratch? Please give more details.
No problem with your comments. I to am amazed at the prices asked for the book but that doesn't mean they will actually sell for that does it - LOL? If they do then I regret not having ordered 15 of them to finance my M37 rebuild project. I am currently taking two 1950s junk M37a and plan over...
This was my problem with Big Blue. I counted 2 shades of fire engine red, 4 of OD plus 2 of primer. The paint was on so thick that it was cracking. I started to abraid it off and found cracks going down to the primer. Only way was to sandblast. Once you snadblast to bare metal you might as well...
