Catastrophic Ibis Tek tow bar failure; snapped like a twig.

When I look at the pictures, it seems that this weld had less than optimal penetration at the coupling. Contrary to the good penetration on the tube, the segment with the red dashed line seems to show an area with no weld, and the rest seems to show very shallow penetration. When I was taught...

Tried to DIY caused problem. Assistance Please!

I googled it and come up with pages of them. You are in a warm area, so could use 12v, but why buy all 12v stuff when with the doghead relay mod, 24v is a superior system. You can run both 12 & 24v stuff, and slave with other military vehicles. 12 volt starters do not last long when regularly...

    Homemade centrifuge

Not really - that does not make it run true - what it does is give it a dynamic balance. I realized this loooong ago, watching an on the car wheel balancer, which does the same thing - spins wheel assembly up, heavy spot exerts the most force, causing the most displacement. Operator puts...

    Homemade centrifuge

Well, here is the old man's (me) way of balancing stuff without no fancy equipment. Works good for me for over 50 years. I spin her up, and lightly touch a crayon or pencil to the outside. Stop it, and look. Where I see the mark is the heavy spot. I either grind a bit off, or put some on other...

    Homemade centrifuge

I do not see how the sludge comes out. Manually disassembling and cleaning after each batch is not the answer.

Reminder: Heavy braking can cause stall

That is a GOOD habit. I do that, and time lights too whenever driving heavy vehicles. If you can keep it rolling, fuel consumption improves a lot.

Looks like you pulled sludge and water out. Be careful exposing your hands to used oil. Read the warning on every container of oil. I got a box of gloves like they use in doctor's/ dentist's office for $5.

    Battery/Starter Problem

disconnect the cable from the starter. Hook a 24v test lamp to it. Actuate starter button several times. If the light ever stays on when you release button, then you know problem is before starter - maybe a sticky relay. If it works right, look at starter.

I am really impressed. Don't know about your typing, but your building skills and ingenuity are first rate.

    Homemade centrifuge

I see you have centrifuge frame solidly bolted to floor. What is size & RPM of motor? If I am correct, motor drives a belt to pulley on pillow block, shaft extends thru pot to torque converter. How did you seal shaft penetration? How did you mount shaft in tq, and get it all balanced? Does the...

Any suggested improvements on my WMO filter setup before I use it?

Thank You- I do not consider it a highjack - it seems like if it can be done at a reasonable cost, that is the best improvement he can make. That is what is done on lube oil on ships.

Any suggested improvements on my WMO filter setup before I use it?

I believe one will find that at least a significant portion of the heavier fractions will remain in liquid phase and in solution with the diesel fuel. At that point the blend will still be too viscous to burn in most diesel engines Would you want to burn it if you could? The bottom end has all...

Ok - next time I am at the supply house, I will ask if they have a pink one I can have. Do not recall seeing pink, tho.
