well I made the trip in 22hours and 30 minutes roughly. I cruised at 50-52mph at 23-2350rpm for about 19 hours of actual driving time. I took a 1 hour nap in the cab near Jamestown, NY. The only problem I really faced on the drive was my right leg going numb. The truck otherwise was perfect. So...
It only shook when down-shifting... shifting through the gears up was fine. I used 1-3low and shifted from 3low to 3high hit 27mph and then went through the gears 4H-5H. The shifting from fifth to fourth was okay, and even 3rd was okay but going to second it shook a bit. Not much and I was...
So I got the truck loaded to about 3.7-4.0cu yards of clay that was unfortunately wet. Perhaps too wet and too heavy. The truck was fine accelerating but decelerating the truck kinda shimmed as the rpms dropped perhaps I didn't shave enough speed off but I think the truck was lacking power to...
I have alot of experience with an old Uni-Mog 500 series truck, they don't turn that well, they are slow, but they do have some cool features like shuttle-shift for forward range and reverse ranges. But Mog isn't going to be a speed demon or really all that nimble.
LDS model engines are designed to rev up to 2800-2900rpm so that would explain the differences to some degree. My software says that a 5spd Od box and LDS reving up to 2900rpm tops out 64mph with stock tires of 40inches in diameter. RPM is important.
I have an air-shift truck but I never shift out of pattern. I always start in first and work my way through the pattern. And i was aware of being able to shift the transfer case on the fly. I like that method it sounds like a good way to maximize the use of the transmission and the brakes.
I've never really notice those problems that much. I mean sure the turning radius isn't great but really why by a 6x6 if you want a 4x4? Why not buy a 4x4 and put the rockwell axles under it?
it only has 130hp@2600rpm... now put that through a .79:1 OD gearset and a transfer case with a high range of 1.01:1 and top it off with 6.72:1 rear ends you're not going to go fast. Your options are this: more rpm which will help out on the flats and hills, or new gears for real improvements in...
I just bring Coffee on my recovery and a Master-Card if it won't stop it has to be shipped... I've only been on one recovery but this is going to my method for all future ones as well. I like to live in the moment.
