I will add my opinion as well- I see no deliberate intent to defraud the buyer. Whenever you buy a vehicle as private party, especially cars, it is always buyer beware. There is no warranty. The buyer should have verified everything was acceptable prior to paying any money- it appears that this...
It is normal for some black smoke on acceleration. Since you stated that this is a recent issue I am not thinking that you are refering to the normal amount of smoke, which should not be that much.
Some more general causes:
Incorrect timing
Dirty or worn injectors...
Well, black smoke to me means to much fuel or not enough air. If you don't see any obstructions in the air intake it is time to look at the fuel.
There are some great troubleshooting procedures in the TM - which you can download for free.
My 'guess' without actually following the TM, is to...
It still could be another bad thermostat, bad water pump, radiator, head gasket, or cracked head. Lot of troubleshooting info in the TM. I am not a fan of those chemical flushes- it seems to me that many times after using them you will have an issue, probably due to flushing out rust or crap...
As stated above, it is not worth much except as scrap in the current condition. Now if the seller were to fix it- it would be worth it. The ones on e* are primarily people trying to make money off the ones that they bought from GL for half the price. You could take the chance on GL for about...
Steve- how did you do the resistor bypass? Before the mod you would have measured 24V on the wire feeding the solenoid when not activated. Now it should be measuring 12v as part of the mod is to move the source voltage wire to the 12v source.
Since you appear to have a perpetual generator- you should capture the energy and sell it! You will make a fortune....until your battery or something dies.
While it may "work", those air conditioners will need to draw air from somewhere for it to send the waste heated air down that 4" hose. It will draw it right out of your cab, which means it will be pulling in hot replacement air through every leak, crack, and vent. It may not result any much if...
This is very subjective to the condition and finding the right buyer. I would think that one in good to really nice condition, not needing any work, would be in the 2k-4k range. If you are looking for a quick sale it would likely have to be priced lower than you think it is worth.
Maybe...if you have a bad cell in one of the batteries. You could also take them to an auto parts store for a load test. The alternator would get hot if it is putting out a lot of current - this happens when there is an electrical load. It could be batteries, glow plugs, something else, maybe...
It may be normal or a bad battery, just trying to charging up the battery? Put a clamp on amp meter on the wires to see where the current is going. If you see 80 amps from the alternator and 80 amps on the battery then thats all it is. You could also check the rest of the wires- you should be...
Time to follow the wires and measure voltage, or look at the schematic in the TM and start troubleshooting. Is there voltage on both sides of the DC breaker?
Well, the way you connected it does not have anything to do with the DC power. I would start troubleshooting the DC power issue, maybe the batteries are dead?
