    M931 Overheating

Before you do anything else. get a laser thermometer and shoot the engine block and radiator. Mine started with the same thing. turned out to be the guage or sending unit reading wrong. Motor was cool as a cucumber, temp gauge was hot.

    931 camper. The Arrrggh-V

that really didn't scare me. i was looking forward to building it the way I wanted. I did however have some reservations about starting from scratch. The other factor was cost. to build what I wanted would have cost much more than I have to spend to achieve the level of comfort that the slide in...

    931 camper. The Arrrggh-V

I believe I have decided to go a different way. I found a pretty good deal on a slide in camper that I am examining closely now. The plan would involve the same as before. Build a steel frame to support the slide in, then bolt the camper to the frame. I have been looking at this closely and I...

    Deuce trailer build thread

Shannon, Any idea of what the trailer will weigh when you are done? Looks great and you are doing some nice fab work there. Keep it up!

931 air filter relocation. Possible? where would you move it?

That is pretty good idea there. That would certainly clean up the install and make plumbing simple. Thanks! we have a few of the semi-truck salvage places near me, i will go and check around with them. Bighurt, Battery relocation kit goes on the passenger side, so that is a no go.

931 air filter relocation. Possible? where would you move it?

Not being scared of a little extra work, I will continue with the plan to move it. Anything that you do to modify these trucks is a lot of work. I am looking at semi truck air filters online now to see if anything is more suitable for what I want to accomplish. Looks like a few of them are...

931 air filter relocation. Possible? where would you move it?

I was looking at that very thing this morning. Either in an upright position with the inlet up above the cab or maybe mounted on the rear fender somehow and get creative with the plumbing. i also considered a flange on the end of the inlet inside the hood. Then have it mate to another...

931 air filter relocation. Possible? where would you move it?

I am building an RV from a 931 and s-280 shelter and want to take advantage of all the space that i have available on the truck. Today I was contemplating space and it seems the air filter canister takes up an awful lot of it. I wonder would it be possible to relocate it and use the space for...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Installed new exhaust and muffler on the 931. Cleaned up the engine bay with greased lightning and got some new seats to install next week. Hoping to have it singled out on 1400's soon. Also removed most of the tractor components getting ready for the box to go on the back. Then the fun starts.

    wacky 5ton bobber

Looks well done at least. Wonder if the bed is steel or fiberglass? Anyway, it looks well executed but not my taste. He took a vehicle with an already long wheelbase and made it harder to handle i think. I bet it tows a trailer like a dream! The color is interesting, never thought something...

Securing trucks for Civilian Usage - how to?

In the classified section there is a member selling keyed door locks and keyed battery disconnects. Install the keyed battery disconnect in the stock main power switch and you effectively have an ignition switch. No power, no worky. As was said before the locks will just keep honest folks...

    931 camper. The Arrrggh-V

Exhaust work is finished, with the exception of the tip to be added after the box is on.

    931 camper. The Arrrggh-V

Few pics of the new 5" exhaust mocked up. Found a good deal on this muffler at truckpro. Man this 5" stuff is expensive! Muffler was relocated temporarily further on the cab until the shelter is installed. It will then be moved to the box. I will add a tip to the muffler after the box install to...

    Aftermarket temp gauge?

I have not priced any of the stock replacement parts as of yet, but it seems I will also need a trans temp sending unit or gauge as well as the coolant temp. Both are available locally in an autometer brand for 39.00 Thanks for the info on the deep sensor. i think that may make a difference in...

    Aftermarket temp gauge?

So after replacing the thermostat on the 931's NHC 250 and having zero results, the problem has been the gauge or sending unit all along. Temps read with a laser thermometer have not exceeded 150 degrees on several locations on the engine and radiator. After searching here and reading up on the...

    931 camper. The Arrrggh-V

Made a little progress today getting the old crusty exhaust cut off the truck. I was able to get the new system mocked up an relocated to the cab side for a temporary mounting location until the box is mounted to the truck. When this is finished tomorrow I plan to start relocating the air...

    931 camper. The Arrrggh-V

To be honest I am not very familiar with what the underside of the s-280 shelter is going to look like structurally. I am pretty sure that "landing pads" will have to be fabricated and bolted to the bottom of the shelter to distribute the load. a 12"x12" piece of 1/4 plate should handle this...

    931 camper. The Arrrggh-V

After some consultation and a little figuring I am pretty sure that I will be tying the shelter to the frame of the truck via air bags. Today I was able to locate smaller 5" airbags used on air ride truck cabs at my local big truck parts house. These are about 50 bucks each and have a working...

    931 thermostat part number needed.

Got the thermostat installed today. Made zero difference. drove it for a little bit to circulate everything and heated right up to 220-240. I am starting to wonder if the gauge or sending unit is bad. No coolant puking out of the tube, hoses don't feel that hot. Oh well, guess the search continues.

    931 thermostat part number needed.

I have the Tm's downloaded. I thought maybe someone had it handy and could post if faster than I could find it in the Tm. One phone call fixed the problem. No matter as the parts are on the way.
