Started my second reinstall of a new drive shaft. Pretty sure the last one failed because a needle bearing cap was in a bind in the drive shaft. This time, I'm going to be using my neighbor's press instead of a hammer to put them in. Got the new drive shaft's old u-joints removed, got it wire...
It's as easy as it looks. Just need a drill or maybe a punch to knock a couple holes in the plastic grill. Everything else is non-permanent part swapping.
A local shadetree mechanic found that the right flex plate seemed to be from a 3/4 ton Suburban with the 6.2 and the Turbo 400 when he had to hunt down the right part for me. Nothing listed for a civvy Blazer was the right part.
Well, if I could mail someone my yoke and broken shaft, and have the yoke polished and reassembled ready for installation, I'd pay pretty good money for that. But not $400. At this point I'm thinking about just rebuilding the NP208 since I'm pretty sure it's acting up anyway, and eliminating...
I did do both new ujoints when I replaced the shaft last. I thought about getting the original shaft repaired, but I don't know a good shop in the St Louis area for that kind of work. The one place I called, Axle Boys in St Charles, quoted me $400! The place that does SYE kits does full...
My truck was making a noise kind of like that when I let off the throttle, and I just lost another driveshaft. Not sure if that was related or not, but I feel I've read somewhere before that it could be ujoint related. I had a salvage yard shaft and brand new NAPA HD u-joints. They did seem a...
Pictures! Taken at night, so not the clearest, but if you want more just ask.
A neighbor of mine helped me fab up some patches for the holes in the driver's side wheel well area. After he had them mounted, I removed them and sealed them on with black RTV. Now I can hit the mud without...
Yeah, I know what they're labeled as from the diagram, but that doesn't always tell me if the switch for an item is before or after a fuse. And I've even been probing a couple times and haven't found a key-on hot or accessory-on hot slot yet. I'll keep digging around on it. Got a CB, a head...
Ah I see. Yeah I have an Alpine I've been meaning to put in mine. Where did you tap the actual ignition controlled hot wire? I thought the ignition slot in the fuse panel was before the switch and always hot.
I respect wanting to enjoy it, as much as I'd like to see it preserved as well, but please tell me you at least have full coverage on it, in case something happens to it you can make the insurance company pay to restore it :P
Had a neighbor help me with creating some brackets for mounting my new power inverter on the wheel well and patched up a hole in other wheel well. Also got the rings in the back bent up for a Draw-Tite hitch install I'll be doing. Now to just get the inverter wired, and my cigarette lighter...
It was really easy to install. You just replace three of the screws just under the hood lip with screws that have snaps on them, and the cover snaps onto those. Then you just drill two small pilot holes in the grill for the twist connectors or whatever they are, and that's it. There's two...
Made an appointment with eTrailer to get a hitch (Draw-Tite 75129) installed. Got some references from the forum for them to get ideas from, they're going to see if they can install it, and if so, document it and install it for free. If they go through with it I'll post an updated. Although...
Well, just to be safe, pull the leads on them and check the resistance between the plug and a ground and make sure it's in spec. I thought mine were ok but it seems they were failing one after the other until they were all shot and the truck wouldn't start even in 40 degree weather. If your...
Looking forward to it, as that's on my to-do list as well. That and finish the lighter install, starter relay mod, solargizers, add an oil pressure gauge, replace the 2 dry rotted tires, install a 24v power inverter, tow hitch, fix the hole in the wheel well that goes into the cab, fab a winch...
