I know you've been doing quite a bit of modifications to your suspension... I know this might seem like a stupid questions but: is everything tight? I have seen several times where (on cars and light trucks) bad/loose ball joints and tie rods cause a nasty pull when braking. Also, how are your...
Do you think a normal cherry picker with a heavy enough load rating could pull the motor?
If so, I can see what I can come up with as far as getting one to take up there if you want... Or if you just want to do an in frame rebuild that works too. Just trying to give you options.
North Carolina has some pretty funky laws regarding tandem axle vehicles as well. You're technically supposed to get a fuel tax decal for anything with tandem axles regardless of weight (I have no clue why). I know that most guys with MV's in NC don't actually get them and typically don't get...
Oh c'mon Walter, we can muscle that engine out of there! They only weigh, what, 1800lbs? I actually do have access to a 2 or 4 ton (can't remember which) cherry picker, but I'm pretty confident it won't go high enough to get it out... Unless someone else can weigh in who has used one?
I actually have a 5 gallon bucket of Purple Power that I was going to use, but after evaluating the space we were working in (very little concrete with grass and shrubs surrounding) I didn't want to make a huge mess or ruin the yard seeing how it wasn't at my house. Ended up going through a lot...
Its really not that bad of a job, its a little intimidating going into it if you don't have experience working on these things. Once you start digging into it, its really quite easy. Its as time consuming as you want to make it. I took longer doing it than most people probably would because I...
I saw that the other day, I wish I had the money for it... Hope to never need it, but it'd be nice to have on hand. Or for doing a full frame up restore.
Well, you're going to get a ton of differing opinions on bobbing vs. not bobbing for off road use. In MY opinion, leaving it 6x6 will give you more ability to get out of a sticky situation, but having a bobber will enable you to go more places due to size. I really don't have a ton of off road...
I'll shoot you a PM next time we get to work on it. Might have to find a new place to do it though. We were at my father in laws because he has the flattest driveway from everyone I know, and one of his neighbors called the city and they came out and put one of the dreaded orange stickers on the...
Hey, you never know what might come up. I'd rather be ready for an issue than to be stuck with my pants around my ankles. Plus it was a good deal on the turbo's so I decided to strike while the iron was hot. I do try to make it a point to have back ups for most things, at least as much as I can...
Well, I got the front axles/brakes done, see this thread: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?118090-M35A2-Front-axle-and-brake-service&highlight=
I also just got in a full exhaust kit (which is green! I'm tired of everything on this truck being black :?). I'm not sure when I'm going to...
From the odd description of the sound that you're giving, and a total stab in the dark, I would guess it sounds like a bearing(s). I'm still lost between metallic scraping and vacuum though...
Sheesh, that's a rough looking truck... You would honestly probably be better off spending the extra cash on a better condition truck. I (personally) cringe at the sight of rust like that. I guess it all comes down to what you're wanting/willing to put into it if you were to buy that one. You...
Now I will say that my knee is constantly resting on the window crank when not manipulating the clutch. To be honest, I've never really paid attention to what's going on when I'm using the clutch... I'll pay attention next time I'm out driving it and report back in.
Honestly the biggest issue I have is the steering wheel. No real problems with the clutch, I do feel like I'm more pushing straight down on it versus pushing it in at an angle. If I'm out driving it in traffic for a while my leg gets a little shaky because of the weird angle and having to hold...
