    Finally......

Yeah, they are quite different from anything else on the road. My biggest issue was getting the shift pattern down and getting used to the non-synchroed gears.

    Finally......

Congrats on the new truck! You just think you don't have any leaks, give it some time . Line leaks can be tricky to hunt down because they flow down to the lowest point of the line. On our '76 I had 2 pretty bad fuel leaks that ended up just needing the fittings snugged down a bit even...

    ATPTac has a new deuce

Well, I have a lead on a good take out alternator for a steal. No clue what condition it's in, but for the price he's offering I'll take it . The guy also has a blown LDT motor (the crank broke and it has a giant hole in the side of the block), and a bunch of other parts with the engine...

    ATPTac has a new deuce

Well, we got her home yesterday. Threw 2 batteries in, and she fired right up. I promptly cut the power switch back off so the alternator couldn't do anymore damage than it had already done (although at this point I'm pretty confident that its completely dead, I have no power going to...

    395/85R20 tires for Deuce

We ended up getting some 395's on MRAP's due to cost. Our 76 has 11x20's on it now and to replace 11 of those it would have been around the same amount as we spent on 7 brand new XZL's mounted on MRAP's minus the adapter plates. And I agree about not using the stock rims, we looked at a truck a...

    ATPTac has a new deuce

Well, I'm excited about the new truck. Its a 1967 M35A2 W/W, hard top, heater, non turbo. All in all mechanically it seems to be in good shape, minus the generator (see below), and I have a constant scraping noise coming from the front brakes. Needless to say one of the first things I'm going to...

Deuce Driving Experience Compared to Civvy?

I haven't loaded ours down with any significant loads yet, so I can't answer that. I'm sure there is somebody that can chime in who has though. I think the key is to just take it easy until you learn all the characteristics of the truck.

Bobbed deuce or 5 ton for light to moderate crawling, mudding, and general wheeling

I'm partial to stock deuces for the reasons stated above, plus I think they look better. Bobbed trucks will enable you to get into tighter areas though. It's mostly personal preference. Also something else to keep in mind, if you end up doing any kind of fording, if you submerge the axles in...

Deuce Driving Experience Compared to Civvy?

They're a different animal for sure. The biggest thing I noticed about driving them is the handling. One of the first few times I drove it, I took a pretty decent curve and I about ran off the road. They're not hard to drive, just be mindful that they're a crude design and were designed for slow...

    LD-465-1C and FDC Question

Well, he was saying he might want a spare engine. If I had the funds and space for it, and was going to get a spare engine, I'd probably opt for an LDS if I could find one in good shape. But then again, I haven't gotten around to tuning my truck in to see what kind of power I can get out of my LDT.

What do I need for a rear axle seal replacement?

Its understandable, I do this kind of stuff for a living and I over thought the job before I started it. Granted we still had to make several parts runs, but that was mostly for broken/missing parts that couldn't have been foreseen.

    LD-465-1C and FDC Question

Yes, a pyrometer is a good thing regardless, especially if you're going to be bypassing the FDC and if you ever plan to tweak around with the fuel. And yes you can still run alternative fuels with the FDC bypassed, all it does is set the flow of fuel. What makes these engines multifuel is the...

    Worst Trip Ever

Wow. You, sir, have had one **** of a time. I would say I feel your pain (I've had bad road trips before), but I can't touch this one. I Wish I was close by to help out. Good luck man, maybe there are some people on here in the area that can lend a helping hand. Be safe.

    LD-465-1C and FDC Question

No problem man, good luck with your truck. :driver: I wouldn't say the FDC causes the engine to be problematic (unless you start dumping fuel into the oil). Most of the time its due to lack of maintenance, and understanding that these aren't typical diesel engines. If you're thinking about...

    LD-465-1C and FDC Question

I don't know why you couldn't/shouldn't bypass the FDC on a non-turbo truck (maybe someone with more experience on non-turbo's can correct me if I'm wrong). The advantage of bypassing it is if it starts to leak you can contaminate your oil with fuel. Adding a turbo is as simple as getting a...

About to start work on our Deuce

Well my SS braided hoses, cunifer lines, and MRAP adapter plates showed up from Peashooter. Everything looks great, if anybody is thinking about ordering anything from him, I highly recommend him. Everything is top notch quality and hes an absolutely great guy to deal with. I will give some...

    LT. Dan M35a2 Modification Thread

That's good to know. I was wondering if that would be a close match or not. Lt. Dan, where did you order your gauges? I'm in the process of looking for some, haven't decided what type to get yet.

What do I need for a rear axle seal replacement?

Its actually better to pull the boot back and make sure that way, if you have a cylinder that's starting to leak it might not always have filled the boot up yet. You can use a small pocket screw driver (or something similar) and gently pry to boot back towards the bottom to check for any dampness.

    head light issue

It's possible you just got a bad headlight, it happens sometimes. I'd be more apt to say you have an issue if you had burned through several headlights. Not saying don't check your system, but it could just be a bum headlight.
