So I am reading I can buy a 48" battery cable and run it from the rear battery to the gp relay and remove the resistor and cables...
or I can just move the right cable from the resistor to the 12 volt junction box, remove the resistor and left side cable and my resistor is bypassed...
I am reading...are there any good threads about bypassing the resister?
glow plugs
-So do I move the red wire from the resister to the 12 volt junction block, then remove the resister and wire to the positive terminal junction block to do the resistor bypass?
-Can the gp relay wire stay...
OK, I know the starter solenoid is attached to the starter. So when a solenoid, BWD-Solenoid, is used for the gp's it is a gp relay? So I have the gp resister (behind the air breather), or is it the gp resister pack?
I need to research this. I always figured when my 60g's started acting up I...
Well, first I am not a mechanic, just a guy that reads the forum and TM's. It looks like to the rear battery and stepped down at the 12 volt junction block before going to the gp solenoid or gp relay, whatever it is called. I took some pics as they do not lie...
EDIT- The thread tells allot...
I have them printed and in the glove box, but I usually print the instructions for the part I am working on, then throw it in the box for future reference.
So, I am using a starter solenoid as a glow plug solenoid because the glow plug resister is bypassed and that is why my 60g's have given...
What is this thing? I've heard it called a starter solenoid switch and a glow plug solenoid. I was under the impression it is the first.
I do not have a glow plug resister behind the air breather I keep seeing in pics here. Just trying to understand...
You still need to find the loose connection or short.
My understanding of the doghead mod is it will save you big repair cost from a known problem that can occur. $9.99 at Oreilly's compared to a new starter, batteries, and cables amongst other things that will melt from a stuck starter...
Do yourself a favor and do the doghead mod from the sticky at the top of the forum before your starter sticks and burns up that nice engine. It is cheap and will save you allot of money in the long run. Congrats on such a nice CUCV...
Check the pink and green wire for a good connection. I bumped mine once taking of my air breather and my truck would not start. Glow plug solenoid? Orielly's told me it was a starter solenoid, but doghead set me straight. I was just confused. :) CUCV Electric has new gp relay cards for a...
I would take the time to put some insulated connectors on there of the right size. The reason is these systems are old and you will probably get better results with your new 60g's. I did. NAPA has them.
From all my reading here the doghead relay is not needed if you converted to 12 volt, except some leave it that way as an extra precaution.
From my own experience if you are having an intermittent battery draw down and when you touched the negative cable you got a click, you have a bad...
Thanks Warthog! We found the issue...
We pulled the starter and found there was nothing wrong, so we put it back in and got 24 volts when tested after hooking up the batteries. Then we were puzzled until we saw a spark while checking things underneath. We replaced the battery cable and all...
I appreciate your help, but I've done that. Everything checked out right down to the starter that I need to get checked.
Look, all I am saying is I can buy a lifetime warranty 12 volt starter from Oreilly's and an alternator too which I would not need as the DL alternator can be a spare. If...
I have a M1008 sitting in front of my house right now that will not start. When I turn the key I only get a click. As soon as I am finished typing this I am pulling the starter and hoping for a loose connection or ground. I've traced all the cables and read here and the TM's. Not allot of...
Well now it's all hands on deck. I put in a new starter relay the same as the doghead mod and it didn't work. I still get a click when I turn the key. That means my starter solenoid is probably out. I do have a neutral safety switch in the mail, but I don't have allot of hope that is the...
Yesterday I was dealing with installing a sump pump in my basement and my truck. Today I have a more clear idea of what is happening. I noticed last night the click was from under the dash. I am going to change my starter relay before I mess with the starter. I never heard of the relay going...
I know that...I was just bouncing off that thread I posted. I just swapped the card with the old card and still the same thing. Does a starter solenoid go bad without a sound or electrical smell?
EDIT- this is not a chopped up M1008. It has been running great and I was planning on taking it...
