The most important thing is the doghead mod the other poster mentioned. Also, the two starters use different brackets (braces), so I hope you changed that too.
I hope someone points you in the right direction with the electrical problem. It seems you can chase electrical gremlins forever...
I guess your supervisor would be your wife. Honey I need some more money for parts. :p
Did you change the bracket or brace if you bought a gear reduction starter? They are different.
Make sure you do that doghead mod. I wouldn't even keep trying the starter until you do the mod.
silly...
After the gp resistor bypass I turn the key, the wait light comes on for about 10 seconds, goes out, and I start the vehicle pushing on the accelerator at the same time 1/4 to 1/2 down. After several more seconds the voltmeter goes from yellow to green and makes quick a buzzing sound or...
I borrowed these pictures from other posters and they are not mine. I am using them for information only.
The batteries are wired in series and there is a 24 volt junction bar or bus on the firewall. These are great pictures IMHO and I thank the op's that made them available. Again, they are...
You can get a better gp controller card from CUCV Electric or antennaclimber. The gp resister bypass can be found by searching and is easy to do. I would wait until you understood more about the gp's so you know the pro's & cons.
The thing you absolutely should do is the doghead mod. This...

This place is not affected as much as other parts of the country by the housing crash. You might find a job. I know nothing about your field or work.
I hope you find what is killing your batteries soon. Got to be...
Don't let it get you upset. The mods like functional grouping for when others do a search. I am guilty myself at times.
Another idea is it may not be your gp sensor, but the gp controller card. It is under the dash on the left side of the steering column. CUCV Electric sells them.
Better...
Just an idea from one of my recent experiences. I would suspect this thing if you have one. Mine had a short on my M1008.
I know you have a different vehicle, but it had a electrical draw. You can disconnect the +- cables at the junction bar to see if that is the source.

I understand your frustration, but I would not take shortcuts with the starter. It may cost you more in the end IMHO.

You have a bad connection somewhere probably related to the battery. Since the voltage was good everywhere, I would clean all the battery related connections I could and make sure they are tight. I would also give the battery cables attached to the battery connectors a tug and see if they come...
OK, I just went and started my M1008 for the first time today. It took only 10 seconds for the wait light to go out. It sure seems longer when you are going to work or something.

Thanks doghead, I was wondering and figured you would know. The gp resistor bypass is working great for me. I am waiting for some really cold weather to see what happens.
Thanks to all of you that point us in the right direction. I know it is frustrating at times.
I have no clue why, but I see a difference in the M1009 and the M1008. I saw it on another M1009 down the street from me too. Look at where the battery wire connects to the 12 volt junction bus on the M1009 shown and the pics from my m1008. They are on different sides.
EDIT- The 30 amp fuse...
Thank you for correcting me.
Searching the internet those RPM's must be for a gasser. I read it on another "diesel" forum and didn't realize they were probably not talking about a diesel on the forum.
I need a beer...

EDIT- My truck easily runs 65 mph and if I don't watch myself it...
I bought mine from crank-in-charge and changed my flexplate at the same time. They claim 100 percent new starters with a 2 year warranty. They have a website and also on ebay. So far no problems with the starter.
It is a gear reduction so you have to use the right brace. Make sure you watch...
I just had a Neutral Safety Switch experience. I ordered a new one and pulled the old one on my M1008. When I put the new (AC Delco-Made in China) back in, it snapped and broke. I ended up just using the old switch.
I did find out the switch also controls the backup lights. I also learned...
