Hogg: your definately right on the cost. However, i hope to be able to continue modifying my truck after the repairs and I enjoy working on them. I have lots of free time during the summer and am definately willing to learn a skill that seems to be very useful in a...
Hey guys, I've been working on fixing up my m1008 and have finished all the little rust holes and things that i could fix by sanding coating with a litle acid then either using bondo or it with fiberglass. however i have two generous rust holes in the corners of the firewall and it definately...
Dude..... that is AWESOME!
when i was younger i got the most screwed up cakes. My mom once asked the cake decorator to put a little kid in a hammock during summer. Instead for i think it was my 12th birthday i got an old man in a hammock.........
its all in the gearing. The m1008 tends to get from 15-18ish and the m1009 can do above 20. It really depends a lot on the truck, the driver, and the conditions driven in.
well the m1008 is basically like a k30 civilian model truck. As long as you don't mind it being a turd in the acceleration department and have trailer brakes i don't see why you couldn't tow 7-8000.
hmm i'm not sure what gears you would want to use. You'd have to find the proper balance for how fast you want to go on the highway and what kind of offroading you want to do. Also if he's going to put bigger tires on that will also factor in. For the turbo i believe you replace the intake and...
it will make for a great offroad and brush truck, however they are old so as long as you don't mind doin some maintenance now and then their great trucks. You can NOT drive the m1008 at 65-75. It has 4.56 gears in it. the engine is screaming at 60+. Driving at that speed for any duration of time...
I have been sanding down to bare metal then applying a coat of phosphoric acid to eat the rust. Then wash it off, do any body work if needed and prime and paint
MORE AROUND the 150 range for horsepower. torque is around 250. It was an meant as an economy engine not a power engine. Also diesel has advanced a long ways in 20+ years. So compared to most diesel engines its a turd. However, its still a good engine in my opinion. It may not be the fastest but...
Welcome to the CUCV club!!! [thumbzup]
and yeah you can't really trust the odometor on miltitary vehicles. By the sounds of it though it seems in good shape. There fun trucks to drive and work on.
Alright guys well i got my m1008 fall of last year. Picked it up in philly and it drove home fine. As 20+ year old things are it has issues so i'm slowly working on it so its a nice and clean truck. So far i've replaced the rear axle gasket and fluid, replaced the power steering gear, and...
naw i'd say start looking around for one. Thats seems a bit pricey for one thats got a no motor or trans. Check on here in the classifieds, ebay, craiglist, or maybe you could get one from gl.
