Good morning rosie,
I was not sure how that was done. You are right, it is best to buy ethanol free fuel. I was just curious if you were doing it in large volume. If it was separated and the ethanol was saved. Always interested in new ideas.
Thanks,

Paint
RDUKW, I think you have the best solution. The red paint is bonded well and not peeling (looks like a pro paint job) so I guess the best thing to do is scuff and paint like suggested. That will be the hardest part of this project. I hate sanding and painting.

Finally got the t-case adapter. Now just gotta find the time to get it in. This thing is coming together pretty well. Maybe I will get to smell smoke soon. Pics to follow.
Thanks for all the help
Anyone have a good source for the mechanical modulator and cable for the 3L80 transmission in an M998? I pulled the transmission out of a 1008 and now I need to replace the vacuum type with a mechanical one to get this thing to shift.aua
Thanks Sarge29
Transfer case
The transfer case adapter was remover by the previous owner so i will have to do some looking to find another one. I am a little confused here so bear with me. I am putting the 218 transfer in behind the 3l80 that was in a 1008. If i use this setup will I need to do anything to...
Transmission
I picked up a transmission out of a 1008 to put into the HMMWV. I decided to put in the transmission then put the transfer case in after that. I am using a floor jack to do this , so you can guess how that went. All was going well until I tried to put the 218 transfer case in. I am...
Pcb
I pulled the PCB out and opened it up. There is 1 trace on the back of the board that is burnt. Not sure if that is all that is bad. I am going to fix that trace and try it just to see if it works. The glow plug bypass was wired into the solenoid. It had a hot wire to a push button on the...
HMMWV Info
Thanks for the info. That will help. I will try to locate the civilian H1 manuals. I felt sure that some things were close if not the same. I had no idea that the 92 hummer halfshaft would work in a 998.
Thanks again,
Halfshaft cross
I am new to the HMMWV series of mil vehicle. There is going to be a learning curve here for me. Is there a civilian halfshaft that works on the rear of the M998? Does anyone have a parts cross reference list for any of the parts on this animal? Where is the best place to get a...
No power
All paperwork will be in my hands this week and i will get the title ASAP. This is a legal sale. I just got lucky with this one.
If the alternator and starter are missing will that cause the no power situation? I did connect all of the starter wires as if they were on the starter(all...
I have been doing a little electrical work on the 998 this weekend and have ran into a problem that I have not figured out. I have no power to the gauges when I turn on the start switch. Some one in the past has installed a manual glow plug button into the PCB. That tells me that there is a...
On the way home.
Thanks to my son and best friend Hotdog we got it loaded. The load out and trip home went well. Now I just have to do a real good inspection and start the restoration process.
You are right Hotdog, USMC would look real good on it but I am afraid this one will have to go back 3...
OK, The load out and trip home went well. Now I just have to do a real good inspection and start the restoration process.
You are right Hotdog, USMC would look real good on it but I am afraid this one will have to go back 3 color woodland camo. The aircraft stripper is on the way.
If this setup is what jjramrod wanted and is happy with his purchase, then it was worth every cent he gave for it. I know that I am happy with the purchase price of the one that I have. Well that is just my 2cents worth. Congrats and good luck with your planned setup.
Thanks Southern Steel, I am ready to get started on my first M998 restore. Blasting may be the easiest and best method. I will get it home tomorrow and then the fun begins. I will try to keep the progress updates coming.
