To reseal a fuel or water can try CYCLE TANK REPAIR KIT-POR 15. That should work and be easy to sanitize.

I removed the whole assembly, then took out the stud from the frame. The stud is held in by the nut, spring and washers (fiber and steel). Then I welded the stud, back on.
