What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

No headlight or horn mods. The electrical is stock with the exception of a manual glow plug push button and advance idle toggle switch. All of which were done by the previous owner 2 years ago.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I checked my 30 amp headlight fuse today after cleaning the fuse block contacts several days ago. It shows signs of heat damage again. I went through the headlight circuit sticky, thanks all who contributed BTW, and started looking for areas up stream of the fuse block. I took apart the diamond...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I was driving home last night and my headlights started flashing on and off. Today I found the headlight fuse half melted. I cleaned the fuse block contacts with crocus cloth and contact cleaner and replaced the damaged 25 amp fuse with the correct 30 amp. Works like a champ now!

    M1008 Brush guard measurements?

G, I'd also like to echo the others sentiments. You are a stand up guy for doing what you did for a new member! It took some effort and more importantly time to draw up those prints. Thank you for helping make this site what it is. MG

Starter problems or more than that?

I should have included Cucvrus in my original reply as a reference. He has over 30 years of real-world experience on the CUCV and he's seen and fixed pretty much every problem you'll ever see.

Starter problems or more than that?

It sounds like your batteries are weak. When the battery voltage drops amps increase which gets stuff hot. I think that's how it goes, someone will correct me if im wrong I'm sure. Plus it was a low of 13F up your way in Baaa Haaaba which is pretty brutal on batteries. Mind you I'm just...

CUCV speedometer does't work and tranny shift problems.

Your speedometer problem is separate from your shifting issue and have nothing to do with each other. For the shift issue check your vacuum lines from your vacuum pump, to your regulator on your injection pump, and from there down to the modulator on the right side of your tranny. Pay...

M1009 seat belt upgrade by Military?

I'm certainly not an expert by any means but it looks like mine was moded like yours because they don't look anything like your second set of pics. I just thought mine were original. Good to know:-P

M1009 seat belt upgrade by Military?

That looks the same as mine. Didn't know there were differing types.

    Glow Plug System Problem

Check to make sure your relay is insulated from the firewall. If its touching it will be grounded and not function properly. This happened to me a few months ago, my insulators for the relay were worn out and grounded my relay. Also check your 2 IGN fuses on the lower left corner of your fuse...

Official 2015 Ga. Rally buy/sell/trade thread

Thanks goes out to CARNAC for holding on to an item for me for almost a year! And for also teaching me some things about the detector system I had installed in my M1009. Somethings just aren't in the "Books" and talking to guys who have been there and done it is invaluable to this hobby. Thanks...

CUCV head gasket / head/ or change engine survey

That looks great Rick, keep it up buddy.

    Throttle Sticking

You'll have to isolate where it's sticking. Disconnect the throttle cable at the IP and see if it's sticking at the peddle, the cable or at the throttle shaft like Rick suggested. If everything looks good then its internal to the IP and time for a rebuild unfortunately.

CUCV head gasket / head/ or change engine survey

Oh, but one is needed for each side, top and rear of the vehicle.

CUCV head gasket / head/ or change engine survey

Here ya go. I would make it an inch wider if it was me. Apparently during the invasion, troops were instructed to paint an inverted V for identification purposes. No guidlines were issued except black on tan vehicles, white on woodland vehicles. So you won't be inaccurate by painting it to your...

CUCV head gasket / head/ or change engine survey

Thanks for the heads up but I think I'll hold off for now. Rick has me motivated to rebuild my engine. I hate following Rock's threads, he always manages to motivate me to do something on my truck and spend cash! My empty savings account thanks you Rick! Just kidding buddy, your truck looks...

CUCV head gasket / head/ or change engine survey

No not yet. I've been waiting on a price with shipping quote from the guy for a while now but its fine. Like you say, this is really just a hobby for us so I'm not worried about it, I'll eventually get a pair of rims. Trust me, I've got plenty to keep me busy in the mean time. Your truck looks...

CUCV head gasket / head/ or change engine survey

Rick, that looks great for sure. I took particular interest in your engine overhaul. I just aquired a J code from a civy duelly so I plan on rebuilding that. Was the black paint used on the motor anything in particular or just stuff you had laying around? It looks great either way! Keep at it.
