My idea was to just do the last axle so you would have the middle static. Yes I would put it in the same way as the front so caster should hopefully want to keep it straight. The front may be shorter but I was planning on just running the rim flipped the same way as the front so the track would...
I dont have years of experience dealing with the rockwell axles found in the 5 tons like some on this forum, but by looking at the dual front and rear input/output flanges it seems like it would be a natural to swap in a front axle to the rear for rear steering. I cant be anywhere near the first...
So I took delivery of a M931A2 today. It came from Fontana, and at pick up my trucker guy Robert mentioned that the air dryer was gone and that he had to bypass it to get it up on the trailer. Anyways so its gone. I took a quick look at where it was originally installed and it seems that it had...
As far as the winch control lever(in the cab) goes, it should move freely back and forth under any and all conditions as it is simply a push pull cable that connects to the hydraulic valve. The resistance that normally causes the hand lever to center itself is in the hydraulic. Most likely the...
Also, since my other question was never answered by GLS and its kinda buried on here now, I again would like to ask those of you who have gone through the M1070 EUC process through GLS which in case of the first time they said can take up to 60 days, and in some cases I hear the sale may also...
Obviously I am confusing CDL with Class. I thought needing a Class A or Class B basically means you need to have a commercial drivers license as you have to take special tests written and driving and I think a Medical exam as well, with many/most applicants taking some sort of schooling to do...
I asked this question to GLS regarding purchasing a M1070 and the EUC, but never got a response so I thought I would ask here. GLS says it can take up to 60 days for the first time EUC. Now I know you don't apply for one until your deemed the high bidder, but does GLS require you to still pay in...
There is no way I no of operating one In CA without a CDL, that goes for the M939s as well. Just the air brakes alone does it in here. Add to that over 26.5 GVWR then add 3 axles on a vehicle over 6k. Any one of those means you need some sort of Class B at least. You even need a class A if you...
I dont mean to change the subject but since this problem seems to be solved I have a strange (to me at least) situation regarding my rear PTO on my wrecker(M936A2). I have no problem engaging everything, but when I first get it going and I set the rpms around 1400, then start working the boom...
Thats good to know, thanks as I got a m931A2 on the way. But I must have four or five loose 5th wheels laying around so I wasnt too worried, but who wants to swap one out if you dont have to. But with that said it would be nice to have a sliding 5th wheel on it....
Another tip is that its better to pay a 1000 maybe even 3000 more(depending on the model) for a clean rebuilt truck then one that has not been gone through. Find a good truck and don't settle for one that isnt up to snuff. Just wait if you don't get the one you want. I bought a M91a2 last week...
I have put complete fifth wheels on bare frame trucks a few times and it was always pretty easy. I would think just starting with a complete unit would be easier and cheaper if you buy it used.. By the way does anyone know if the 3.5" size is standard on all military equipped 5th wheel trucks...
no big deal I can do it all you really need to do is measure between 2 of the bolts. The reason I ask is because I have a couple of different engines to pick from and one of them I would like to use in place of the original, The CAT C12 has a #2 bell housing and the Cummins has a #1. I was...
I figured if its K&N and there marketing to Big truck market there product better flow enough for a lowly 8.3L when the average over the road truck uses 12-15 liter engines.
No but they look like they would work great. Not bad price either. Should help with the CFM too. I didn't realize these were available. Would be perfect for us. The bright and chromie guys wouldn't like them.
Interesting. I have always heard the Big cam thrown around and I know they were the motor to have but never knew the difference. Did you notice what bell housing number that they use in these trucks? I never got around to measuring while in the truck.
I really congratulate you for doing this even without ever MIG welding. There is nothing like learning yourself. A lot of people would be too afraid to even try.
( i cut myself off sorry) I was saying trucks with dual axles with one drive and one just for load aren't very common but I have seen them before. Then if you could get a newer Allison with an overdrive...
I am not completely sure what you are trying to get to but what is the purpose of changing out the axles again? Is it because of the low ratio? I would assume if you want the military look you would want the big tires, and if so a typical gear set from an over the road is going to be way too...
