    IP problem for the experts

Background: The governor and associated parts of the IP on the LDS465-2 appeared very sticky a couple of days ago, so I removed the FDC and exrecised all the parts and lubed them liberally. This morning I cranked the engine and it started nicely. The "gas" pedal was very responsive and all...

    Electric coolant heater installed

Got this Calix heater from Kenny a couple of years ago, finally found a home for it. It's 1000 Watts and coolant flows by convection as it's heated. The bottom hose is connected to a drain on the block and the top hose goes to a port by the temp sensor. It's actually a 2000W/220VAC unit, but I...

    Hand pre-oiler update

Finished most of the plumbing today with a checkvalve installed to help matters. The pump is a fuel transfer pump designed to dispense fuel from a drum. In this application it also worked and by measuring the level drop in the oil pan, about ten strokes put 3 to 4 qts into the canisters and oil...

    Tach cable lube advise requested

The instrument panel is about to be re-installed on the 757 and my question is, is it a good idea to lube the tach cable at this time? If so, what lubricant? TIA

    U-joint parts hunting

Got a couple of questions about rebuilding one of the 8x8 drive shafts. a) Can I buy just the bearing cups for the "cross" or do I have to get a whole new unit? b) Are the freeze plugs standard for the Spicer drive shafts, the one used here is 2.00 inches in dia? c) Know a good source for...

    XM757 bio fuels project

The truck came without a fuel tank, so starting from scratch, I'm using an M52 steel tank and it gets the full treatment including coolant heating and temperature sensors. Working on the heating coil install today, it's "screwed" in and there is only a minor adjustment left to do so that it...

Fuel tank ground or lack thereof

As you know by now, the deuce fuel tank has one single ground connection from the frame, wire #79. It goes to the fuel pump connector, that's it. From there the grounding of the rest of the tank and level sending unit must rely on the mounting screws. Working on the fuel tank for my xm757 I...

    XM757 frozen drive shaft

The drive shaft between the two rear axles is frozen solid. The avatar on the left here shows our efforts to remove it before the truck was towed home to Virginia last Fall. I have tried heat, hammer blows, penetrants and today I hooked it up between a tree and the deuce to try to pull it apart...

    Magnetic oil drain plug

Removed one of the oil pan drain plugs from the LDS465-2 engine to drill and tap for a pipe plug to supply a preluber and found that they have a magnet attached..... (didn't pay attention to this detail when I changed oil several months ago). I have second thoughts about drilling it now, so...

    PM notification

Mike (mangus580), don't know if this is related to the new server or not, but I'm no longer notified of private messages received. Also, the default display of posts show the oldest one first, can these things be modified by me, the user or do you have to make these changes? Thanks,

    Dual EGT gauge

I could research this on my own, but since the answers may benefit everybody..... What can be diagnosed by using a dual pyrometer, one thermocouple in each exhaust manifold section, not possible with a single probe installation?

    Abnormal 3-lever light switch

The light switch on my 757 has no locking feature, the upper and lower left levers operate without the need to use the 3rd , locking lever. The switch appers to be original installation with no signs of tampering. Question: Does anyone else have a light switch with the locking lever disabled?

    Purpose of 5th ring

The LDS465-2 engine was designed for more power and higher goverened speed (rpm), one modification was the addition of a 5th piston ring, anybody have an educated opinion on its purpose? Guess it would keep the piston better aligned...or is that not a problem?

    Who needs paint?

Scotchbrite takes the oxide off for a good finish. :-) Is there a chemical that will do the same, for the little details and crevices?

Legal use of veggie oil as a fuel

Biodiesel is available commercially and certain amounts of the homemade variety is permitted to be used legally, but what about veggie oil, used or fresh? I don't believe it's considered a legal fuel in any amount (other than as an additive), so does anyone know how to legally use WVO or VO...
