Little by little, more gets done on the XM757. Worked on the fuel lines today.
Here are some views showing the front portion of the 8x8 truck before and now.
The "7" may seem low for an 8 ton vehicle (empty), perhaps it has something to do with load distribution over 4 axles...
Some solid arguments for the 4-pack battery systems, please.
My XM757 originally came from factory with a dual battery system (besides the fact that it it's a Ford, engineering figured that two batteries were enough), but a field mod later turned it into a 4-pack.
Why are four...
Does any of you have any experience with these?
Got a battery box from an M925 today (four batteries) and found two of these terminals in the box. They have set screws for tightening and a lube nipple.
Mike, since you are in the mode of modifying the web page, how about a stepping routine where a person could step through the most recent posts of all shown on the front page?
In other words after reading post number 1, there will be a box to click on to step to the most recent entry of next...
What color combinations are acceptable on Semi Gloss OD background (Circa 1975)?
1) Black lettering everywhere.
2) White lettering on bumper and black lettering elsewhere.
3) White lettering everywhere.
What color was the Star for each of the above combinations?
The bridge plate color at...
How do you tell them apart? I got one from Memphis some time ago and it has no markings except for the number 8376530.
My old one (from the 8x8, same as the deuce's) has "TOP" and "oz" marked on it.
Zipper on the new one is Cad plated (golden) and bigger, the original is zinc colored.
The new...
Hate to bring up my little engine problem again, but I would like to know how close I am to a catastrophic failure.
The engine is knocking, apparently on one cylinder only, number six. It has been doing this to some extent since before the California trip, 7,000 miles ago. Before and during the...
Hey, anybody currently on line who can help identify the knocking sound from my ldt465?
If you provide a phone #, I'll call you so you can hear the sound while the engine is cooling down after a short ride.
PM me.
Thanks!
During a 10-mile test drive today, the turbo boost gauge pegged out at 15 psi. Before FDC bypass, the max reading had been 12 psi or so.
The turbo was really wipping the boost gauge needle around, never saw it respond so quickly.
The FDC was bypassed the other day and the unit itself replaced...
Another first from the Meadows of Dan skunk works.
A second FDC was installed to monitor leakage and to serve as a sending unit for a more sensitive Fuel Viscosity Meter.
The FDC on the IP is now bypassed. The second unit, which is the one originally mounted on the Injection Pump, sits...
This series of trucks was designed to mil-spec from scratch and many little things show a better way to do it, as well as big things too.
Here are some images of typical mil-spec solutions.
There is a lot of talk about potential problems with dry starts and poor filtration lately, but what about running an engine below operating temp? If someone made an engine pre heater, we'd probably "know" all about it too.
So, what about runninng an engine at 120-140°F for an hour or so, what...
After the "scary" oil analysis posted in a different thread, I'm now in the process of changing oil and bypassing the FDC.
The filter spanner I had was too small, so I improvised using the old capstan technique. Worked great.
Pardon me if it's common practice, it's not the first time I have...
