Well bye what I get from the diesel page the 6.2 or earlier pre 506 block 6.5 would be the better choice the early 506 blocks were the first attempt for gm at oil squirter's and they were pron to cracking that being said I would stand clear of the 506 and 99 was the start of the 506 block!
When warm start and buckle your seat belt about that time your good when its cold out the fast idle will step down about 110 deg. of engine temp. If you cant wait for the idle to kick down then give it a couple minutes then drive it a bit on the easy side you will notice when the idle kicks down...
:ditto: You are doing just as the military or gm did for the starter relay.maybe yes it will work but at some point will stick or go bad just like the starter relay does best bet is to get the same relay as the doghead sterter relay swap uses then be happy! thats my2cents
:ditto: young kid behind the wheel, right foot with get-r-done driving it, and its not theres's anyways state of mind, and throw in the tires were not a good choice for most places and yes they did not last long! but for a truck of the day they were great! but had there downside as any thing...
:ditto: For what it sounds like you want then you answered your own question! do not beat on it to much and will live awhile thats the killer of these they are not race engines! but will live long happy service life if treated like a diesel!
:ditto:If you are not sure what to look for then find a good shop and let them look at it! a good shop will give a free est. and then you will know what is bad and needs to be changed with the price of parts you can throw a lot of money in to it and not fix the real problem. let them tell you...
The 350 swap is really easy do the switch back to 12 volt , one wire to hook up to ignition side of dist. biggest thing guy miss is the Governor in the trans needs to be swapped for a gas unit or at least the springs in the gov. and change the torque converter to a gas unit really simple good luck!
sound like it would work as stated the rear bumper is pleanty solid anything that you come up with should be fine and if welded to pintle that much better!
No not really just remember the longer ones effect weight capacity more so then the shorter ones I would take the second or third from longest then the first or second from the shortest leave the zero rate or the thicker one on the bottom and see how you like it just my 2cents
A spring center bolt is cheap remove 2 or 3 but not stacked remove 1 then skip on and remove 1 like that try 2 leafs try it . will make it ride a little better but will leson the weight it will carry I think a 4'' lift spring in front and a shackle flip in the back with your 36'' tires you will...
Ox joints are not recomended for continuous duty or full time 4x4 and are not to be used in stock axles just trew that in there not thinking ! MY BAD !
My opinion is the joint is fine until you go to grease them any dirt or contaminate get into grease Zerk. then its not sealed axle joints spin heat from the wheel bearings and brakes makes the grease liquefy and is thrown out the same place you put it in not to mention most people pump grease...
