Thanks guys, I plan on running auxiliary coolers for both oil and trans fluid. And A/ N hose. The original transmission cooler may be a power steering fluid cooler.
Spun my 86 1009 with 4.56 gears and 33x 10.5 tires to 83 mph for a short distance to avoid an accident, I think it liked it. But I know I didn't, nearly 4000 rpm's, this was using GPS my speedometer bounces to much to use.
Oil and filter again.I used rotella T5 this time since it's finally warming up outside. Used 2 quart filter STP# S373,I change it every 3000 miles, since I am driving 600 miles per week it's about every 5 weeks. Also picked up enough 1-0 gauge copper cable to finish my battery cables and I got...
I'm all about mpg, I achieved my best mpg in my first 1009 with 3.08 gears at 55 mph. 23 mpg with 33 inch tires. So I am thinking I don't drive 55 any more I drive 65.so a 3.73 with a 700r4 transmission would be great
I agree, my first 1009 has the 308 s, and I got great mpg, this one has been one surprise after another. My plans are to go to 410 gears in a 14bolt and d 60 in front with a 700r4. With the od trans and 410 gears it will put me in the 308 range again.
Drove the 86 1009 to work this morning, 10 inches of snow, never put it in 4 wd. Was a little tricky driving a short wheel based 1009 with a locker and 4.56 gears.Had to be very careful with the fuel pedal or I was sideways.
My first 1009 did the same thing, I finally bought a voltmeter and checked batteries, both were way low, and they were new red tops. I simply wasn't spinning motor fast enough.Check voltage in morning before you try to start. I now check batteries as often as I check the oil and I installed a...
Novaccine you are correct it's my engine oil cooler I'm updating. My factory lines are starting to leak and I want to install electric cooling fans, getting the hard lines out of the way will help. When I add a remote transmission cooler I run through radiator then through remote cooler.
Got a box of parts from Summit today for my A/N hose to BM remote oil cooler eliminating the in radiator cooler .If it turns out okay I will post parts list. I may even add a second oil filter setup.
I felt the same way with my first 1009,but I learned a lot from it and then bought another one and fixed the problems before they were problems. If it weren't for this site I would have scrapped the first one and given up.
I would spend 20k on a cucv before I would spend 20k on a newer vehicle I'm not able to work on. You know what I mean or you would not own yours. No offense intended Rick.
