Wish we had steel soldiers t-shirts, so we could identify each other. Last time I was there I got an insane deal on a nos rear bumper for a 1009. I'm sure he is a member.
2 or 3 years ago a guy posted an army designed 1009 roof rack in the classifieds, it looked nice.mounted to quarter panels not fiberglass top. I think he was in columbus, ohio. I wish I could have bought it. If someone finds it please post it up.
Finally got the new, not rebuilt injectors installed. Huge improvement, runs so much smoother. Got them from Fred at Badger Diesel, less than 200$.They are Delphi injectors,.can't wait to see if mpg improves. And only one busted knuckle.
Got off work late and was in rush hour traffic, I drove the 4.56 geared 1009 with 33x 10.5x15 like I stole it, 70 to75 mph.It seemed to like it. Cucvrus would be proud .
What is your cruising rpms in overdrive?,if lower than stall speed of convertor it will create lots of extra heat, frying the bands. If your pan has a bung for it add a trans temp gauge, I love gauges cheap insurance. That's the same fluid I used back in July when I changed my fluid and filter...
I'll be there looking for a few 1009 parts, front bumper and clevice mounting brackets, rear clevice brackets, clevices, radio block off plate, spare tire mount, I'm sure that I'll add to the list.
I installed mine the same way with the same results. I tightened the small nut on top of the valve and no more leak.My gauge reads 30 psi at idle and 60 psi at speed when hot.
I live in northern Ohio and work in Columbus, Ohio. Today I paid 1.65 per gallon near home, but it was 2.09-2.20 per gallon 100 miles south. What are you paying?
I have read that it's possible to install the pump 180 degrees out by putting the locating pin in the wrong hole on flange, I will find out more next month when I replace one in my 85 1009.
Thanks Rick it's definitely nozzle knock, no mistaking that sound. That and it clears up after adding atf. Thanks for the input. For those who have never experienced nozzle knock it's very disturbing, it sounds like someone suddenly threw a ball bearing in one of your cylinders!
Not really sure. I am trying to eliminate an occasional loud diesel knock. I currently have to run 2 quarts of transmission fluid in my fuel at fill up.Started out with 1qt,then I had to use 2qts,now it wants 3qts so it's time to change.
Tomorrow my 86 1009 is getting a full set of new injectors and return lines, new lift pump and another new thermostat, this time an ac/ Delco thermostat.tire rotation and maybe rear u joints.
I also kicked this idea around P400 250hp,and 550 ft lbs of torque would move a 1009 down the road nicely, check out leroy diesel.Moroso.offers a pan for 88 and up 4 wd.
Ordered a set of new injectors and return lines for the 86 1009. From Badger Diesel /KR services. The 85 1009 patiently waits for me to get back home in April.
The fastest I have been in my 456 geared 1009 with 33 inch tires is 70mph spinning at 3300 rpms.At the same speed in my 308 geared 1009 I was just turning 2200 rpms. Also with 33 tires. This was with GPS, don't even look at the speedometer, never right..
