The truck in general is pretty nice. The hood and grill are good looking. The jury is still out on the doors though... can't say I've ever seen lambo doors on a K5 before. But those wheels look like crap.:cookoo:
315/75R16 tires are about 34.6" x 12.4" tires (The tires in my avatar are 35' x 12.5" ...the actual measured-size is right at 34"). I doubt you will find many 315/75R16's for less than $200...for whatever reason 16" tires are a little more expensive than their the same-sized 15" counterparts...
Like GPrez said swapping in axles with 3.42 or 3.73's would be good for everyday cruising and pulling the M101.
70's Blazers most often had 3.73's in the stronger 12 Bolt rear axles with Dana 44 fronts (30 spline axles).
80's K5's had everything from 2.73 to 3.73. I think 3.08 and 3.42 were the...
The General Grabber AT2's are nice tires. My dad had a set on his old Xterra and they rode nice and handled snow and the occasional trip offroad well. And they're cheap too. $132 ea. for 31x10.5 on Tirerack (cheapest All-terrain on there)... $168 for 33x12.5
I have the driver side rack and full radio set up (VRC-53). I also have a few extra radio bases (MT-1029 and two(2) MT-1898's).
PM me if you're interested.
Yeah, warm-up time cuts down on fuel economy.
But Winter blends of fuel suck for economy in general. Both gas and diesel alike. Some people see even worse declines in mpg than you are.
That's a nice looking 1008. Where's it located? Sparta? Also, greetings from the southeast side of Great State of Wisconsin!!
I bought my first CUCV when I was 18. It too was a 1986 M1008. I didn't know what I was getting into, some of the things are a bit different than normal truck stuff (but...
You might as well if you're only using the one as a spare... Just don't drive on it too much or too fast. Make sure the bolts are all tightened properly. Maybe paint "35PSI MAX" near the valve stem or in a few other places to make sure no one else tries to "help" you and inflate them to 60 psi.
I already have 3 binders full from the P.O... I'd say they are close to original, just because the binders/paper look to be at least 20 years old...
I will say the TM's on SS are way easier to look **** up in than in the binders...
There should be a way to save it to you computer.
I'm not familiar with iPhones. But if you have a usb cable you should be able to upload it to your computer. Or you could send it via bluetooth if your computer has bluetooth capabilities. Or maybe you can email it to yourself from your phone...
I had seen something a while ago in a thread about shift points I think it was called, "What are normal shift points." About moving the regulator in or out to adjust the shift points sooner or later. And something about a screw you could adjust to make it shift later and make them more firm.
What is your definition of "shifts too late?" At what MPH? Or RPM (if you have tach)
Like 35 mph under normal driving?
I'm not sure what the M1008's shift at. I think my old 1008 shifted from 1-2 somewhere around 15 mph. My 1009 shifts at a little over 20mph.
The way the trucks are geared, 3...
Yeah, I agree with KIP. It sounds like you are getting air in the lines before the fuel pump. And just because you fuel pump is "clickin away like it always has" doesn't mean it is good. Cracking the bleeder and checking for air and flow is where I'd start.
I saw something in the TM for...
