What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

This week, I finished removing the passenger side radios that I'm selling to another SS member. ---I still have one(1) MT-1029 mounting base (for use with an RT-246, VRC-240, or RT-524), and two(2) MT-1098's (one with an interconnect box and cable). I also, have the full VRC-53 radio setup...

    Cheese, flowerbulbs and me!!

Welkom from Wisconsin! ;) I really like the paint job on the 1008! Also, the Mini Clubman Estate is cool.

    82 6.2L any good?

The problem with the 5.7 diesel and 6.2 diesel, is that people didn't know how to drive them, or how to maintain them. They'd rev them up like a 350 gasser and use them like engines that they aren't, and not perform proper maintenance on them. Granted the 5.7's weren't the greatest engines in...

    82 6.2L any good?

I heard they had a few little issues typical of a first year product, including different injectors. Is the 82 a C-code (emissions engine)? That would be a difference between the 82 and the J-code engine from a CUCV. C-code has less torque and HP. The heads are slightly different but...

    M1009 vs. M1008...

I think of all the CUCV's made; M1008 and M1028's probably make up around 2/3rds of that. The remaining 1/3rd are M1010, M1031, and M1009's. But really it's up to you and what you need. For passengers and general daily-driver/highway use; the M1009 is a better option. For hauling, messy...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Broke my glow plug controller card taking it out. Guess I have to bypass it now  Friday night my truck was very slow to start. Wait light would come on for the usual amount of time, but my truck cranked for a long time before finally kicking over (like the GP's were never or barely...

    thundering M1008 3" straight piped

Haha. How is your system set up? Is it a full 3" from the engine back? Even then I'm sure a 3" exhaust is ok on a high compression N/A diesel. On an 80's Caprice I had with a 305, I had 2.5" to hi-flow cats and 3" dual exhaust from the cat back with the pipes infront of the rear wheels, no...

    thundering M1008 3" straight piped

You shouldn't lose power without the mufflers. Stock mufflers weigh like 25lbs each, and are very restrictive. A dual 2.5" system or a single 2.5" to 3 inch exhaust would be good. Mufflers don't really play a big role in backpressure/scavenging either way. A 3" exhaust might be a little...

    thundering M1008 3" straight piped

Do diesels even need to get emission checked out there? I guess we get off real easy in Wisconsin. You only need emissions checked if you're in the 7 county "Milwaukee Area." And even then, only if your vehicle is OBD-II (1996+) for gassers or 2006+ for diesels. And that "emissions test"...

    M1009 Centurion conversion

In fact after a quick search a few guys have done it. And several different ways. They seem to graft part of the bottom rear of the Blazer on also. This is just one page with a pic. But there are a bunch of more on some of the other pages of this thread on Colorado K5. UPDATE Topless Suburban...

    M1009 Centurion conversion

This was my thinking as well. It'd be way too complicated and expensive to stretch a Blazer or to chop a little off the back of a Burb. It'd be so much cheaper and easier to find a Burb with a tailgate/rear window (non-barn-door rear) and put a Blazer cap on it. It would make a really nice...

    M1009 Resistor Bank

Honestly, I would keep it bypassed to the 12v system. Much less chance for problems. If one glow plug burns out, the stock setup will increase the voltage to the rest of the glow plugs. Then steps it up again when the next plug burns out and so on and so on. For example-- All 8 plugs get 10-12...

    optima batteries

I have Kirkland Group 65 batteries in my 1009 (900 CCA w/ 150 reserve capacity, plus a good warranty and good customer service; Costco stands behind their stuff). I had to make different battery hold-downs and change the terminal connectors. But the batteries were around $80 each, the terminals...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

You can make it work. The previous owner of my 1009 put the newer style of wiper motor on, intermittent wipers, and the newer type of windshield washer pump.

    Capacity?

I don't see why not. If a Jeep Wrangler can tow it "without knowing its there" The Jeep Expeditions Group™ - Live The Adventure - JEEPEXPEDITIONS.ORG A 1009 will handle it just fine. The stock pintle hitch would be fine too as long as you aren't gonna put a ****-ton in it or do any hard...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Fixed. I was happy it was a cheap easy fix! :jumpin: The valve core was leaking. And that just so happened to be the last thing I checked on the tire.

Haven't done it yet... But I will be taking the front wheel off and checking the tire for a leak... the **** thing is flat aua Either way I found a set of the same BFG MT's on CL for pretty cheap...so hopefully the guy still has them if my leak is not fixable...
