Did some searching and the leaf springs are from Superlift. The specifics of these I couldn't tell you. I would assume it's a 3-4" lift.
I also took the 1009 for a drive today. The tires are really "lumpy" feeling.
There's a little leak, I think from the front of the T-case (the P.O. rebuilt...
Get an NV4500 5 speed manual trans. Then you really don't have to worry about all the stuck valves and stuff. And you get overdrive, and 4 other gears.
Thank you all. The Humvee tires do look really cool on there. 8) These are the older Goodyear 36" bias ply Humvee tires. I'd imagine radials would ride a lot nicer on there.
I'm not sure about the lift. The military put the tires on it. I'd imagine there is a lift of some kind. The springs look...
It rides like cold sacks of potatoes ;-)
Nah it's not that terrible for a short wheelbase 3/4 tone truck. And the tires are cold and have sat for a while, so I'm sure they've squared out a little bit.
When i had my 1008. I titled it as a 1 ton (Class C Light Truck plates). Wisconsin DMV doesn't really care. I'm sure if I would've gotten pulled over and gotten weighed and I was hauling more than a Class C is allowed I would've gotten a nice big fine. It was $69.50 for title plus $103 for 1 ton...
I took the more complete (and slightly more time consuming) route:
I removed the whole resistor (big ugly thing in Doghead's second post ), disconnected wires on each side of the resistor, and then disconnected the wire from the 24 volt buss on the passenger side (the white plastic cover with...
Got all the plugs out finally!!! I bought the OTC glow plug remover tool two weeks ago. What a huge P.O.S. aua **** thing broke at the hinge on the first plug... following directions and everything...
I was still able to use it to get 3 of the 7 plugs out, but it took around 45 minutes to get...
Basically it's just preventative. Like doing the doghead mod.
The starter relay commonly malfunctions- Fix=Doghead mod
The glow plug control module commonly malfunctions- Fix=Install push button switch.
Neither may never fail, or both may fail. Granted if the starter relay malfunctions you...
:ditto: I forgot about that one.
If you don't hold the plugs on for excessive amounts of time you wont have problems. With the 60G's you shouldn't have any problems either, and if you convert it over to the 12 volt system you really shouldn't have any problem.
Honestly most of the stories about...
1) Glow plugs are the first things I'd replace. Get AC Delco 60G's (you'll need to file/trim down the connector tab).
Also the general consensus seems to be to;
a.) remove the glow plug resistor (big black thing on the fire wall behind the air cleaner) power the glow plugs with 12 volts
and
b.)...
A buddy and I built one out of boredom and curiosity a few years ago when we were in tech school.
It did create hydrogen (we made a few plastic bag bombs) But we never put it on a truck. He did put it on an old Cummins (8.3L I think) and ran it on a dyno, but I can't remember what the...
Yeah, I'm not sure where this thread strayed so much.
Wired1000: To sum it up...again... Basically, don't drive like a fool.
Lock the hubs and drive normally if snow or mud is in expected during your driving. Then engage 4-Hi when you need it.
Don't drive in 4-Lo (regardless of hubs being...
I am currently in the painstaking process of getting 7 (...well now 6) swollen Wellmans out of my M1009.
I got a good deal ($45 shipped) on a new OTC remover on fleebay, and received it Friday. And the split nut broke at the hinge on the first GP I tried to remove. aua aua It still works, but...
Power goes to the front diff. but the wheels are not being driven.
Conversely, if you leave the hubs locked-in and the t-case in 2WD, the wheels drive the axle and diff.
Here's a different way of explaining it including pictures...http://www.4x4abc.com/4WD101/hubs.html
You'll probably see a little increase in city mileage (lower gears=less effort to get up to speed), as well as being quicker off the line (for a 6.2).
I doubt you'd see much difference on the highway, but maybe slightly better mpg since the engine wont be lugging down as much.
You should expect...
I wasn't really thinking clearly... and I forgot that the two CUCV batteries are linked. Sparks would fly...
I didn't really specify... If you isolate both batteries from each other in the CUCV and connect each battery in the other civi truck to each in the CUCV, and let them sit and...
