Thank you very much. However I have two questions:
What would Perrine RC be? All I could find is the town of Perrine in Miami, Fl...but there was no military establishment in the nearby area, aside from Homestead AFB.
Also what does the contract number "DAAE..." and Oct. 1986 pertain to? Is...
Yeah, what patracy said. I jumped my 1008 a few times with my Grand Marquis.
You should definitely carry two sets of jumpers. Your best bet for getting jumped is to find a guy with a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel truck (F-350, Dodge 2500, etc) as they have dual batteries.
I think I'd like to keep the antennas and mounts (for the cool factor)
I checked the plate on the unit in the 3rd pic. It is a PRC-25/RT-505A
I'd kinda like to try and sell all the stuff together, just because it's less work.
I suppose I'll hook up the batteries in the truck and start...
Thank you islandguy. You have a great looking 1008 yourself.
I am impatient and wish that glow plug remover were here right now, so I could work on the beast. However, I'll be pretty busy the next 4 days so that will make the time go by quickly, and in my spare time I plan on doing the Doghead...
Yeah from the feebay and other interwebs searching I did: In just the three radio units alone I have somewhere in the area of $700-1100 worth of stuff. Plus all the other little stuff bracketry/holders/bases, speakers, headsets, cables, etc to make it an almost complete set, is somewhere in the...
I got it from a private owner, he got it from GL with the 36" hummer tires already on it. He restored it a little bit and outfitted it with all the original radio truck stuff. He had two other bigger radios in there that he didn't sell with the truck (they were the big, rare, expensive ones)...
Just like the title says. I want some info.
I have these radios/comm units in my M1009. I'm looking to get rid of these radios. I'm pretty sure they are in working condition...I haven't messed with them much to verify that. But I am not too sure what to ask for them. Anyone have any idea? Or...
^^
Yeah, that was the JJ&R tool that they are sold out of
The tips aren't magnetic.
How big is the passage from the pre-comb. chamber to the cylinder? Big enough for the tip to go through?
The other 7 GP's are shot (bad on the Ohm test).
I definitely plan on bypassing the resistor though...
So I found the OTC glow plug remover on fleabay for less than half the price of most on amazon. That should be here by next week Wed.-Fri.
However, in case the tip does break off while using the GP remover, I heard having the piston at TDC will not let the piece(s) fall down into the cylinder...
I sold my M1008 a few years ago due to its impracticality as a daily driver/highway cruiser...but I have come down with the OD Disease again...I found a great deal on a 1985 Blazer M1009. It's got 26k mi. on it. It was owned by a guy who used to buy and fix up a lot of CUCV's and other OD...
1985 CUCV M1009
VIN: 1G8ED18J8FF116334
Registration: NF08GV
NSN: 2320011232665
I bought it in Mequon, WI. The previous owner bought it from GL. He said it was previously with the Georgia Forestry Dept. and it was originally a Texas truck.
Many thanks to you!
I'm not sure what the military calls it either.
But it has frame mounted zf planetary axles with gear reduction and internal brakes (axles are mounted like in some tractors). It has full hydraulic steering, the 6.2 diesel, TH400, and an NP208 transfer case permanently in 4WD (I've read some say...
I know AMGeneral did. But the HMMWV used GM's 6.2/6.5 and trans. Unless AMGeneral hobbled the headers together. You're probably right, GM probably only just supplied the engines and AMGeneral did whatever to them.
Yeah the HMMWV's "Headers" look like some backwoods-engineered hunks of crap. Something tells me GM just kinda threw them together to fit the Hummer.
As for performance. yeah, on all the fuel stuff. I know there are marine injectors for 6.5, mayeb there are some that would work for 6.2's. I've...
I read, I believe in Diesel Power and a few sites out on the web:-? that the Cummins 6BT(5.9) is closer to 1100lbs. Powerstrokes/Duramax are around 950lbs. And I think the 4bt are about 600-700lbs. (Don't quote me on this...)
I'm bypassing my mechanical pump (its leaking) with a electric in-line pump. Correct me if I am wrong the 6.2's need 8-10 psi. The pump I found at Carquest was good for 5-9 psi (like $60+ I should get a discount), the guy said it is listed for 6.2 diesels.
Think this pump will be enough???
I'm...
Yeah you can re-convert those 5.7 diesel to a hell of a strong gasser. I'd like to get my hands on a DX powered Buick/Olds/Cadillac...I love those old diesel cars...just can't find them.
It looks baddazz...but, it is quite unfortunate that they don't have a solid front axle. The guys in the service better learn how to fix a broken axle shaft.
It definitely has 8-lug axles. I mean I know its a CUCV but its all dented to shit. It'd would need some serious engine modifications, etc like a 24 valve Cummins and a 6spd for me to even consider $11k.
