I have been looking at Temro 280 0063 battery warmers,80 watts 36" long.Measured my group 31s and they are 40" all around.Temro says only 3 sides of battery needs covered so I think this size would work great.
If planning an original resto.Your truck was more than likely painted green originally. After the armed forces were done with them they went to local govt. agencies, and they painted them to suit their needs.By the way that looks like a solid start to a fine truck.Congrats.and welcome.
At Summit,Sunpro gauges.Water/oil temp.#cp8217 $3. Oil pressure #cp8216 $3. Vacuum/boost #cp8213 $3. I think keeping track of coolant temp.and oil pressure in cucvs is a good thing.I have these gauges in my 1009s and they work well. And I keep the vacuum gauge loose in my tool box to keep track...
Added a qt trans. fluid today,I used to run it in my 85 but didn't run in my 86 1009,til now.I really don't baby this truck I run it at 65mph at 3100 rpms often. So cobwebs should be gone. One of these days Ill make it up there to see ya.My late Mothers family is all from Pa .SummerHill Johnstown...
Thanks Rick,I do use power service additive, and added Lucas injector cleaner when noise started.Seemed to help but still happens now and then.I suppose I should get some new injectors.
Got the solargizer installed on the 86 1009 works well.Started working on 85 1009 dropped fuel tank, gonna replace with new tank,31 gallon.New lift pump, new filters, and new IP.Shes also getting new radiator, crank dampner and new hoses. The 85 has 200k miles so its time for some fixes. Its so rusty...
Every once in a while Im having a really loud diesel knock, like a bad injector, but it goes away and doesn't happen again for a while.I have good fuel pressure and it only does it under load, not at idle or even when revving in park. When it knocks loud there is no smoke. It really sounds like a bad...
As far as I can tell there are no baffles in fact.1009 tank, and also no deep spot in tank for fuel pick up.I may be wrong .But Im in the middle of replacing rusty orig.tank with a 31 gal.new tank, neither one has baffles or a deep sump pickup for sending unit.
Bigtard you do not want a 1009 or 1008,not yet anyways.Keep your 77 gasser and modify it as you have time and $.And learn about it.Cucvs do not roll coal or accelerate very well. After reading all your posts I estimate your age at 15-17 yrs. old.And its great having young guys and girls...
My first 1009 did this to me ounce, ran great, next day no start.I removed fuel cap on tank, big vacuum whoosh and it started right up.After that never tightened fuel cap again.
