The M1008 does not have buckets and none have leather.

You can replace the relay with a push button switch connecting the switch to the 24v wires and push to engage/release to disengage.

Here's an idea, do away with the relay altogether and replace it with a push button switch on the 24v wire. You push the button and the starter will engage, release and starter disengages. The 12v wire would be disconnected.

I have never had any problems with the relay on either one of my cucv, M1008 or M1028.

You can and should hook it up to the front batt.

The "wait to start" light is controlled by the glow plug controller card under the dash and that relay does look like the unreliable ones.

Are you talking about the "water-in-system" light next to the "wait" light? A pic would help.

The shackles were designed tor tie-down of the cucv for transportation but can be used for recovery.

The bus bar where the 2nd batt connnects is 24v. Just connect it to the front batt or get a 24v winch and connect it to the slave plug.
