I hate to say it but do a search....it's in a thread here somewhere, I just can't remember where at this point in time. The MEP-003a and -002a are the same SAE size bellhousing. IIRC I wanna say it was an SAE 4???? The flywheel bolt pattern isn't a standard that I know of, but that's not as...
I certainly hope that is all that was wrong with it, and that you didn't do any further damage by driving it. We need to have the 818 of death at the Haspin Rally.
Someone needs to get stuck at 2:00 in the a.m. after a torrential down pour.
When I picked mine up from Wisconsin, both batteries had shorted cells, but the truck still slaved off pretty quickly. I can't think of any other reason that slaving wouldn't turn the truck over, other than the wires from the slave receptacle were disconnected (notice I said turn it over rather...
Looks like I'm gonna make it to the show this year...I took Friday afternoon off work, so I can come up, look around and hang out and drink a beer or two or three in the evening. I'll probably pack up and leave earlier in the day Saturday as I have to work Saturday afternoon.
Lane, If you...
Guys...the problem isn't getting the shims. The problem is the thickness of the shims. The shim thickness is part of what sets the port closing dimension of the original hydraulic head that came with the generator. That's why the shims stay with the block and you need to recalculate the...
Oops...sorry to be the one to break this to you, but that missing part is your injection pump!!!
The sad thing about that is, I don't see any shims around the opening either. The shims behind the pump are supposed to stay with the block for the port closing settings of the pump. Once you buy...
The 701/016 TM's might not spell out the steps for checking the generator head output by using a battery, but it would be the same procedure as on the larger generators since the heads are all the same design...3 phase, brushless, rotating field
Welcome aboard. I have to agree with everything the guys above hae stated. With special emphasis on DO NOT be in a hurry to start it. Inspect the fuel lines and tank closely. Change the fuel filters...the WIKI article linked above has links to places selling the OEM filters. Make sure...
You have an 002a....someone installed the IP with the #1 cylinder at TDC exhaust stroke rather than compression stroke. Line up the IP with the brass rod again, and pull the valve cover off. The cylinder nearest the blower wheel needs to be at TDC compression stroke....Both valves should be...
Welcome from a PA native, but Ohio transplant.
Please fill in your location as required by the forum rules so we all can know if we have a new neighbor or not.
Sorry to hear that is didn't work out for you. At least it sounds like you have access to another head though. I hope you get it running soon, and without breaking the bank.
Your first and easiest step would be to visit the site "Liberatedmanuals.com" and find and download the TM's for the MEP-701 generators. If they are not there, you need to find them somewhere. Ike probably knows the exact manuals you need and might even have them since the 701 is basically an...
Don't forget the high temp switch I mentioned. Most people don't think of this switch because it doesn't go bad very often, but it will shut you down just as quickly and have the same symptoms as the oil pressure switch.
I guess I could grace the rally with my presence this year.
My current plan is to show up sometime Thursday with the Thompson clan. I'll have the deuce. I need to know if there will be a need for it, and that we have a more centrally located spot for it before I drag the genny along. Maybe...
If the solenoid pulls up while you are cranking and then drops out after you let go of the start switch, the solenoid is working just fine. Like gary mentioned, could be the oil pressure switch or high temp switch.
Heat damage might be easy to take a quick peak at...the insulating varnish used doesn't like heat. Especially the older varnish. If it got hot enough to short a winding, try taking a look-see with a flashlight at the coils if you can get to a point where you can look into a crack in the...
