I've been using a "battery tender" brand trickle charger on my motorcycle for years!! Ask any biker and they'll probably tell you they use one too. Without a tender you can expect about 3 good years from a bike battery. I've gotten 7 and 8 from my motorcycle batteries using the tender. It's...
G-Force,
Yeah, the vent is free and clear. I also made extra sure of that while I had the tranny out of the truck. I don't know what oil the military unit at Ft. McCoy used in it but it was definitely gear lube (gear lube has it's own distinct smell to it). Was it the proper gear lube...
Captain, I would gladly help you out if I were only closer....it would be about 10 hours for me to get there.
As a last resort, if nobody else steps up to the plate, I'll try to find a way to help you out.
For all you do for the guys on this site, I would think someone would be willing to help!
I made another trip Adlemans Truck Parts in Canton, OH yesterday, I was after a circuit breaker for my heater install. I also wanted to get a turn signal switch as the light socket in mine is burned up. And I wanted another three lever switch since the lock lever on mine no longer springs back...
Here it is.
The garden sprayer was the most expensive part...I think it was $12.99. I didn't use the wand or tube and tube nuts that came with it.
3/8" o.d. by 1/4" i.d nylon tubing was something like $0.15 / foot (I used 3 feet)
3/8" spring clamps were less than a buck.
The air tool...
I used the china freight "5 gallon pail pump" It's not the most heavy duty pump in the world, but it works.

Greg, I can't complain about those McCoy trucks, or trailers for that matter :-D. Mine is a real runner for being dead...
Barrman,
First off, thanks for the informative post about safety....you can't be too careful when the brakes on these beasts are concerned.
It sounds like you and I are alike....if I saw an oil slick like that I wouldn't be able to sleep either until I found the source, as I would be afraid it...
Then please tell me where the problem lies. I checked the tranny level on base before the trip home and it was at the level of the fill plug at that time, not a quart over full. The quart that ran out was after it was hot and expanded.
There was no foam, just plain gear oil coming out, I've...
gringeltaube, those are good points and the measurements seem right, I've never measured mine to be sure. You are correct, not all lubricants are made the same, but I can tell you this.
The oil that leaked out of mine was put in by the military, so it was to military spec. When the oil leaked...
m-35tom,
I've read your posts and I do value your opinion because you really seem to know these trucks inside and out. But you do not know me inside and out, so don't assume I am too lazy to repair a brand new transmission because you don't know me!!!
I've also read the new LO and it does say...
Yeah, I've had the tranny off of my truck...the oil is not going anywhere else on you...if it was you WOULD know it. Keep going, you'll get it full.
Some people will tell you to fill it up to the level of the fill hole, but I've been told from a few members with a lot of experience with these...
it's around 5 or a little over I think. I filled mine until it was about 1 1/2 knuckles down from the fill hole, and it took about 5 to 6 quarts...I think. Then again, I knew where I was stopping so I didn't really care about a total, I just kept checking it until I was where I wanted to be...
