For all you guys out there wanting to replace your worn CUCV steering stabilizer -
The original GM part number was 4993563, later replaced with 88946674. I have found a reference which indicates the later part number 88946674 will not work on our '84-'87 trucks, but not sure if this is the...
Hold on a minute - the Flux Capacitor in my M1028 uses the same blinker fliud and it won't work right unless it is exactly 1 quart low. The problem is, there is no way to tell when the level is one quart low. Maybe Doghead can chime in here.
It wouldn't mess up the calibration of the valve, but instead it would prevent the valve from doing what it was designed to do.
Think about it: If you place 3000 pounds in the bed and are traveling at highway speeds, and then suddenly have to stand on the brakes for whatever reason, you want...
The rear proportioning valve plays an important role in how much braking force is sent to the rear wheels and should not be removed. As weight is added to the bed, the arm connected to the rear axle causes the valve to rotate counterclockwise, therefore increasing the braking force. Correct...
I would say to forget the light for the time being and focus on getting the calipers to work properly. The valve will reset itself when all pressures equalize.
I installed rear discs on my M1028 http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/52121-rear-disc-brakes.html but did not experience any problems...
In my opinion, I believe DW is caused by a combination of issues, not just one. Weak king pin springs and worn king pin bushings, weak shocks, weak stabilizer, and out-of-balance tires/wheels can all contribute to the issue. Looseness in the steering gear can also contribute to the issue.

Yes I did do the search and did read through the results. Many of the posts were related to questions regarding how to hook up a mechanical HMMWV tach in a CUCV. I could not find any posts related to my specific tach, which is all electric and requires 24 volts + and - as well as Signal + and...
Got me a brand new HMMWV 3500 rpm tach.
Can this be hooked up in a CUCV? If so, I will fabricate a custom mount on the transmission hump. But I want to make sure it can be wired properly before I expend the effort to build the mount.
Thanks in advance for your imput.
Follow my recommended re-installation steps in Post #36 step-by-step and you will have no problems. If you do run into some uncertainty, pm me and I will respond as soon as possible.
Tom - My rear proportioning valve is rusty too but seems to be working properly. I'd be willing to bet there's a quantity of those things laying around boxed up somewhere. Don't believe they are rebuildable.
Bob H - for 10 years I ran 11.00/20 NDT on a brand new 1985 K30 1-ton SRW diesel pickup. As long as I maintained correct inflation presures, I had no problems in handling and braking. I intend to maintain the same tire/wheel combination with my M1028 and will keep you and everybody elso on SS...
