I came home from work and decided I would experiment with my wing vent window. I drilled the rivets out and looked at my chrome vent handles. I have a new GM one and a used black one. I think I am going to put the chrome ones in only because that is what it had from the factory. I must work...
I just made an order with LMC for over $1K I was able to order everything but the side glass seals on the cargo top. I never replaced them and my glass guy that I have been working with for the past 30years begged me to use the old ones. He hates aftermarket glass rubber. I C also ordered a new...
I used fuel line and slipped it over the entire glow plug. I packed the fuel line with dielectric grease and they lasted for years like that. I done that on CUCV plow trucks that were plowing and salting. Before I did that I I N was replacing connections and glow plugs every other year from...
I use Power Steering fluid. Only because that is what GM had in them from the factory. I still use power steering fluid in power steering and ATF in Automatic transmissions. I have a Kubota and use Kubota UTD hydraulic oil in the tractor hydraulic system. Some guys just use AW32 hydraulic oil...
I dug around in my stash and found a set of GM wing vent rubber seal. One problem. One is the one piece and the other is the 2 piece. I have to make a huge order to LMC to finish my project. I will probably drill the rivets out of my wing vents just to ease in installation of the seals.
I...
Give the glow plug spade a slight twist. That will make them tighter. I have been using the AC Delco 13 G glow plugs for 27 years with the stock system. Always worked. Have I changed glow plugs? Yes, on occasion. I changed many systems back to stock after I bought and worked on customers hacked...
Get the rebuilt booster and master cylinder. That is the quick fix and the easiest. Save the old one till you have the rebuilt one installed, there may be a rod or other part you need. Last one I had apart 20 years ago was corroded and leak again a short time after putting the seals in it. If...
That wasn’t”t too bad. I am happy with the part I am working with, it is in great shape for being over 40 years old.
The butyl glue is still pliable and tacky. These rubbers are a joy to get back in the channel. That is it for today. I think I have a genuine GM set of the 2 piece seals...
I brought my vent windows on to rebuild and was surprised to see that they are the 2 piece seal design. Another thing that says 1983 and the chrome jangle latches are OEM. The windows are in excellent condition no rot on the glass holders.
here we go
I was looking for fasteners and came across a bag of vintage GM wire ties. I reattached the diagnostic plug only because it was there. I have the heater box reattached and added the lower air director. I have the ashtray back in and am moving onto the heater controls and then the glove box...
I have door nomenclature riveted back on.
The right vent back in place. And I am working on getting the wiring harness installed . I have lots of prep work and cleaning on the steering column before that will be completed . Next I am going to get the duct work and heater box back under the...
My collection of CUCV tags that are no longer with us. Many more are stashed in a box here that escapes me now. All variants log the CUCV have been parted out here in the past since 1995.
I am building it one piece at a time. I was sweating the nomenclature plate as I had lost it for many years. And recently I was unable to find it. It brings a tear to my eye. My Wife clipped it to the title and had it locked in the safe. WOW.
It has a 3 digit VIN after the zeros. It matches...
Imagine that I don”t have the bracket that goes on the dash. Oh well if I don”t find one I will just use a stock trim panel. I still have a GM one in the box. But I know one person that is smiling because I was able to save that warranty decal. Have a Great Day.
I brought the defroster vent and the floor air director in the house to scrub and Armor All. I don”t think many CUCV”s had the air director on the floor at the heater assembly. This is an early build and has chrome wing vent handles. I am inside for the rest of the year. Take Care Be Safe.
