In 1985 I ordered a brand new K-30 civi Chevy SRW 6.2 diesel. I raised the truck 5" and had my machine-shop buddy build the 20" rims. I was undecided which type of tire to use, however I had access to some new 11.00/20 NDT military tires, so I decided to mount them and...
I am almost finished. Had to take a month off for back surgery, but now ready to finalize the details.
Still left to do -
Apply stencils whenever Rick Larson gets them to me
Install 12 volt accessory plugs in cab and bed (marine plug in bed)
Adjust toe-in, headlights
Adjust rear brake...
I need to purchase a Dana 60 spindle nut socket to rebuild the front hubs on my M1028. I am sure there are different brands available, but is one brand better than another?
Thought about hydro-assist steering, however the slim profile of the 11.00/20 NDT tires turn easy without it.
I will post new photos as soon as I recover from back surgery.
Yea I looked at the Tiny Tach, but I want to maintain the military look. Just trying to figure out how to hook up the tach in my photo or, as an alternative, wondering if there is an electronic military tach available.
All comments will be appreciated. Thanks.
I've been looking at these mechanically-driven tachs for some time now and wondering if there is a way to hook up a drive source. Is there a civi vacuum pump which also has a gear output?
Just finished raising my M1028 five inches. Used ORD shackle flip kit and Zero-Rates on rear.
Question - the lifting of the truck caused my rear driveshaft to pull out of the transmission tailpiece an extra 1-1/2". Is this too much? How much is still left in the tailpiece? Should I order a...
Thanks everybody for your comments in this thread. After thoroughly exploring the idea of using HMMWV gauges in my CUCV, I am abandoning the effort because of the difficulties of wiring and the absence of gauge lighting.
Instead, I plan to utilize an oil pressure and temperature gauge from...
Well, I am not sure my idea of using HMMWV gauges is a good idea. It just occured to me, are those Faria gauges lighted? If not, I will probably abandon the idea and use off-the-shelf gauges. Does anybody know if the HMMWV gauges are lighted?
After thinking through how this could work, the 24v gauges would need to be powered up with the ignition. So I guess I would need to ignition-power a 24v volt relay to power the gauges. Easy enough. Now I just need to figure out how to supply the temp and oil pressure data from the engine.
So let me make sure I understand -
I can indeed use new 24v HMMWV gauges, as long as I power them from a 24v source? Am I correct in assuming that the sending units for oil pressure and temperature gauges would be standard civi 6.2?
Wolf, I am not wanting to change a 24v vehicle to 12v. I simply want to install oil pressure and temperature gauges in my M1028 to supplement the idiot lights, and would like to use new HMMWV gauges to keep the military "look". It is my understanding the new HMMWV gauges are 24v. I would like...
srodocker, I had not originally intended to do cross-over steering. Because I do not plan to do any hard off-roading or rock-crawling, I had installed a drop pitman arm and a steering block, thinking that would be fine for my highway needs. However once I saw the limited steering geometry...
I deceided to install ORD cross-over steering, which was quick and easy. Used a rebuilt PSC 2WD steering gear, which also installed easy. However I could not bring myself to re-using that primitive rag joint, so I ordered a new universal from Flaming River to replace the thing.
The PSC gear...
I searched and searched this forum but could not find a related post.
Instead of trying to replace the idiot lights in my M1028, I have decided to leave the perfect-working stock system the way it is and simply add a supplementary temp and oil pressure gauge to the radio plate. I don't...
Here's my setup - I used an Optima Blue-Top Marine battery in the rear tray, and a Yellow-Top in the front tray. I also replaced the Mil-Spec front tray with a new civi tay to accomodate the fresh air tube to the grille knock-out.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
Flaming River offers a universal joint to replace the GM rag joint Chrome Moly Racing Universal Joints - 3/4" DD X 3/4"-48 Chrome Moly Racing U-Joint - 3/4" DD X 3/4"-20 Chrome Moly Racing U-Joint .
The male shaft of my rebuilt PSC 2WD steering box is...
