Last week I tried to include the word 'profligate' (which means casual or wasteful spending or use of resources) in attempt for a touch of humor in a reply. After posting, the word had a rolling smiley face in the middle of it, with some of the letters gone. Was wondering if this was some kind...
And where there are creases, if you have a peen hammer and a dolly, or even just another hammer head as back up, whack crease between the two, you can remove tendency for panel to re buckle.
Could be a clogged injector or stuck rings, since it seems to be running OK, maybe let it run for a while under load and add some injector cleaner to fuel. If it does not clear up, perhaps have Storman rebuild/test injectors.
Suggest you read Sticky at top of CUCV forum 'CUCV alternator symptoms, diagnosis and fix'. Or you could just throw in a rebuilt alt and hope that fixes it. Also check ground to chassis if front of front battery.
You don't need to worry about bypassing frequency meter to run it, just make sure the wires from the transducer are taped off. But you should have a way of measuring frequency so you can set RPMs and make good power. If you don't have a multi meter, a Kill-O-Watt meter has a hertz function and...
Kind of reminds me of when the cold start circuit is working first thing in the morning. The cold start circuit advances timing as well as ups the idle RPM. I wonder if it could have shorted or stuck in on position some how. Just a guess, but you could see if unplugging the light green wire...
I'm following this. Learned something about it when my new 003 would trip breaker at less than 100% load. The breaker is the same NSN for the 002 as the 003, from what I can tell from TMs and by comparing actual parts. Wouldn't the R-3 circuit preclude just putting in a standard breaker? I...
If you have an ASK, it is worth it to add a muffler. Have a CUCV muffler on mine and it quiets it right down. Muffler not worth it as much without ASK, due to machine noise. Attached old pictures from previous posts.
I would second you reading all the 'stickys' at top of CUCV forum, a few of them relate to your problems. There have been so many threads about these topics that it becomes tiresome (no fault of yours, but it is best to read up). An actual understanding of system will serve you well. Probably...
Mill supply has a full line of patch panels. The ones I got a few years from them were pretty good. It is good to dry out and paint with POR 15 or Chassis Saver anything you can get to once you have opened the rocker up.
It all sounds pretty normal to me, except I would not use starting fluid unless it was emergency with glow plugs taken off line. Most people who have to start below 20 degrees a lot install a block heater.
I thought the CR designation was for 'close ratio'. Less difference in ratio between gears. Used in civilian applications like trash trucks, local driving, not a lot of highway speed.
This has been covered before, will attempt to link to a couple of threads. The general house hook up question is covered pretty well in the sticky about hooking up MEP-003a.

I agree grounding may be the root of problem. Make sure a thick gauge ground is connected from terminal lugs to motor and the one in front of front battery is connected to chassis. What is probably loosing power to make it shut off is the 12v power supply to IP (the pink wire).
The speedo head bearing is going out. Causes rotating magnet to bind on the indicator spool. It is pretty easy to get and replace the speedometer head (never did try to fix one). Very easy to replace whole cluster from someone here parting a CUCV out. While you have dash out you can clean...
