I have painted it inside a CUCV and then painted with Rapco's rattle can version of carc color. It does help with sound and paint sticks to it. Not sure the stuff is intended for exterior use.
Bushmills....sorta like Jamisons from a different side of the tracks? Tasty. Going to be a nice ride no doubt. Please don't drink that stuff when your driving it. & sorry for the lecture
Check fluid levels in boxes mentioned above. Should be able to see if any oil is coming out seals in differentials. Transfer case fluid level is often ignored, might want to check that one first. If anything is very low, you will probably need to replace a bearing at some point, also the...
I think the stuff I am using now came from Pelican. I bought a length of bulk return line I have used for both Chevys and Mercedes. Says 'METLE GERMANY TYP B' on it, black cloth braid over rubber. Have seen some tan stuff that looks pretty good too. Don't know about long term, but stuff has...
I used to get OEM return lines from GM, lasted better than auto parts store stuff. There is probably some NOS of that out there somewhere. These days I use the same return line I get for Mercedes 616 or 617s on the 6.2s. These seem to be better quality than OEM GM. Pelican Parts and...
Are you using straight diesel? I have had good luck with American Diesel Services, 662-895-1200. They seem pretty together and am sure they use correct seals & stuff.
The '20 manual' is parts book and has good info and some diagrams, the '34 manual' is service manual. If you are buying hard copy, you'll probably use the '34' more often. Both downloadable for free on this site.
Just so you know, those 3600 RPM gas units are loud and thirsty. If you are going to rely on one for back up power, you might want to keep the other one for parts. They aren't worth a lot of $. The manual can be found on internet in a couple places, liberated manuals site among others...
Lots of info on glow plug questions in CUCV stickys, FEQ, TMs and previous posts.
The other common source of 1 cylinder tick is valve lifter. Sometimes a few oil changes will fix that. Might as well replace the injectors first if you have already bought them, probably do the truck good anyway.
Since it is on the roof, it should dry out and slow rust way down once you seal the hole. If this was the rocker panel, I'd say you would have to open it up to really stop the rust, since it is the roof, the important thing is to stop water from getting in so it won't rust lower parts of body...
'Should' is the operative word here. Anyway, not sure if you agree with me or not, but when I play with my gen sets, I like having a ground rod in place, makes me feel grown up and responsible.
It is pretty easy and cheep to buy a 5/8 galv grounding rod and a clamp. You don't have to drive it in that deep or permanent, but it is good to ground any gen set when using unless it is grounded to house with 4 wires. Why not have a ground rod installed near where you work on your...
Sounds like about the time it would take if you removed and replaced the manifold at a casual pace. But there is more than one way to do things. Glad you fixed it.
