Like we said, check pattern before doing anything with shims. It is possible something could be off, but so many of these trucks get 'fixed' by eager owners. Last time I had to mess with carrier setting I was changing gear ratios and adding back the possi. It is likely OK as it is.
If you think it is all original, unless there is a wear pattern on ring gear indicating a problem, I would leave it be. Gear engagement area should be centered if they are meshing correctly.
Are there more updated bulletins? Looks like the ones on the forum are from the late 70s. Am guessing that if CR tests at 120V in all reconnection switch positions this has already been done or is not needed?
ps to Speddmon, not sure your TM links form profile work anymore.
If you have an occasional short due to bad insulation on starter cable it can cause starter solenoid failure. Had a starter heat shield that got bent and occasionally shorted main positive cable to starter. Did not know why I was going though solenoids about every 6 months until I noticed...
If starter is in good shape, it should be able to crank for 10 seconds with no problems or smoke (not that you would want to do have to that every day) ok to try it for 5 seconds. Could be solenoid, but more likely starter wear like bushings (which causes rotating part to rub against outside...
I also have both, and would not part with either. The 002 handles most every thing in my house including 3 freezers and 220V well pump and can run laundry(gas dryer) and dishwasher, oil furnace, and not get past 75% load. The ASK and lower hours (if meter is correct) favor the 003 if you have...
Just a guess it might be starter related, but your truck starts so well that it has not been a problem yet. You could look around the brushes for wear or frayed wire, clean the commutator, see if there is any play in end bushings. I always suggest stocking a spare starter (and bolts), even if...
It is an air cooled motor, and will need some venting in addition to combustion air supply and exhaust. If you can look at one with an ASK, that might give you some idea.
After some heat, if you use a socket a little larger than diameter of u joint cap as a 'receiver' , it takes the stress off the driveshaft ear when you press it.
If the locking differential is "adjusting" itself more often, perhaps load is uneven or tire pressures are not equal. Not sure if the harder shifting of shift kit would affect it, but it might as it reduces the over all play in the system. Sometimes people don't check tire pressure often...
Interesting, why would proper jump starting, (with nato slave cable to good truck batteries) cause DC regulator failure? It is my understanding that un hooking the slave cable (or batteries) while generator is running would damage DC regulator. I used to jump my 002s and 701 until I sprung...
Whoah there ! (in the voice of Foghornleghorn, the cartoon rooster) you think adding antifreeze due to leaking head gasket not an issue? Do you think that is sustainable and will not get worse? Engine damage likly if you don't fix this. I would suggest sorting out basic mechanics before you...
Around here, mice tend to chew up any soft under hood product and use it to build nests, usually under intake manifold. Using lizard skin and or dyna mat like products avoids this.
