    Alternator #1 no light

Probably the 'take offs' you bought needed to be 'rebuilt', just like your original. Putting in new diode pack likely to solve problem, you can do the whole 're build' to be thorough, but make sure you use good components. It is a mistake to take out good working original parts and replace...

Rapidly clogging fuel filters... Sand in fuel?

If the red goop is not gritty it is an algae that can form in diesel if it is let sitting too long. It may or may not be worse with bio diesel, but shows up with regular diesel in marine applications all the time, often in tanks for auxiliary motors that don't get used much. A few years ago I...

    Transmission fluid cooler overheating

I may be misunderstanding your question, but the aluminum lines behind the radiator are motor oil coolant lines. The stock transmission cooler lines(3/8 in steel) go into and out of the drivers side of radiator. If your 'mechanic' was unfamiliar with 6.2, could he have hooked up aftermarket...

    Transmission fluid cooler overheating

Like markg said, check the fan clutch. If the bearing went it could let fan hit radiator. Is the 'frame flex' problem fixed? Might want to look at big picture before you throw too much money that truck.

    fuse box melted

Your right that the alternator circuit is tied to blower circuit. The first step would be to find what caused the short. Then you might be able to repair fuse block or trim off melted parts and seal. Changing the harness is not too bad a job, but time consuming. One of the vendors here who...

Bad Military Surplus Generator Advice Online

I get the last part, if you recommend a machine to friends or family, they will be calling you when it breaks. It might as well be one you know how to work on.

Bad Military Surplus Generator Advice Online

In one sense, telling most people not to buy an MEP is sound advice. Misinformation aside, not everyone wants to learn the mechanical and electrical skill set to get and keep these rigs going. Most of us on this forum are mechanically inclined or interested in learning. The vast majority of...

Just won another GL generator, MEP-003a

I'm going to get it shipped. Too busy at work right now to get it. The 3kw rig is good for what it is, a 3600RPM unit. Most of the others are 1800, which is better.

Just won another GL generator, MEP-003a

There is a good chance you can get both your 002s to work. If I had to choose one gen set of the MEPs I have, it would be the 002. Has a respectable amount of power and it sips the diesel. Good luck on the 'recovery' trip.

Just won another GL generator, MEP-003a

No doubt the one I got will need a good going though, looks like it was sitting a while. There were about 12 sets at Ft Meade yesterday and none of them went too high. None of them were really mint looking either though.

Just won another GL generator, MEP-003a

I won an 003 w ASK at FT Meade yesterday, $1140 plus fees. Just had to fill out the collection also. Have 2 002s and a 701 already. An 002 will run my house pretty easily but can't start my air compressor so I had an excuse.

    CUCV ground help

Originally, the ground wire from right side of negative buss bar was bolted onto motor with the second to rear air intake manifold bolt. Originality aside, there should be ground wires connecting chassis to motor, motor to buss bar and body to frame. Looks like you have at least one other...

M-1009 with a fuel leak, air in fuel and some surging

Fuel filter base covered recently here Intermittent air leak. You could have leaking lift pump, besides leaking fuel out weep hole, they often dump diesel into crank case, smell for diesel in motor oil. Have also had air leaks develop in line due to rust and chafing. Lightly pressurize fuel...

    Running Lights Not Working

A lot of GSA trucks have been 'modified' by local agency. Sounds like you have it working. Perhaps an in line fuse in your jump circuit would be good. Some point the problem will make it self obvious, there is probably a short or ground problem in there some where.

Picked up my first MEP-002A today

Just checking you let pump prime and gave the glow plugs heat for at least 30 seconds. Longer in cold weather. But IP problems are a common in these, so your guess may be right. Lots of posts and info here on that subject.

    Recommend me a m1009 12v Starter

Find a NOS or rebuilt Delco Remy, the gear reduction ones usually give better service after being rebuilt. Or buy two imports for the same price and have a spare. The ones from Taiwan are generally better than the mainland ones. The imported ones are usually new and no core is required. 27mt...

    Running Lights Not Working

Sounds like you know what you are doing and have tried the obvious repairs. I would still suspect a ground problem somewhere. Is the ground wire under dash by parking brake handle hooked up? Has anyone messed with junction block between fuse box and fire wall? There could be a bad connection...

    Intermittent air leak

There are a lot of spin on options. A common one is to use the filter base for the 33123(wix) or 3123(napa). This filter was used in early civy 6.2s in conjunction with secondary filter and a line mounted fuel heater under the intake manifold. The stock CUCV base works fine once the sensor...

    Intermittent air leak

I tried replacing sensor once and it ended up leaking again. Gobbed it full of RTV ultra and it held for a while. Then I found out about the improved filter bases. They are the same but hole feeding fuel to sensor was not drilled through and no sensor was used. Plug the hole and leave out...

M1008 Will Turn Over but Not Start

Ok, It is probably either a fuel delivery or glow plug problem. Sounds like your glow plug relay may work, easy to check with volt meter. You could have burnt plugs. You could have fuel air leak, bad lift pump or failed IP. You could see if you have fuel pressure at bleeding port at top of...
