These 5t axles are stock axles that were used in the cicv world, all the later trucks that I have worked on seem to have the fill plug just at or a hair above the bottom of the tube, the proper way to fill a axle after a repair is to first, on the hub install lightly grease bearings so they are...
The problem with the 939 transfer cases is not so much the transfer but the DRIVER, the military had YOUNG drivers who believe the only way to drive is to drive pedal to the metal, so they shift to reverse in low, not remembering that going into low also shifts the front engage, and floor it...
When I change oil from a 855, I use a piece of cardboard to make a trough for the oil from the filter to flow to a waiting bucket, 100% no mess.
What I am looking for is the adaptor for a remote filter setup like the lube a finner setup
It sorta HELPS to READ the TMs that covers the trucks you own, there is a LOT of tid bits of interesting info in them, like HOW MUCH OIL to put in at a oil change, because if MORE oil is drained then what goes in at the oil change just might indicate a slight problem.
Need to do like the 39 series 5ts, just put a transfer pump in, pump the right tank to the left tank, drew out of the left tank, the fuel gauge switch stays as it is.
Is there anyone that can pick up a 5t front winch from James Creek, Pa and move it south towards Ga., any southward movement would be APPRECIATED,
Thanks, A K/G Ron

Did you remove the vent lines with the spring brake set or released, In post number 1, you say that you lose air when the spring brakes are released, If you are SURE none of the pots are leaking, look at the quick release valve that is under the left cab step.
When the spring brakes are set, do...
I did NOT say service brakes, I SAID " spring brake RUBBER", air holds the spring brake off, no air the spring brake sets. You HAVE a spring brake rubber leaking.
The wrecker body is a complete drop on "kit", it comes with EVERYTHING needed to make it function. just like the front winch comes as a complete drop on "kit" , again the install package comes with everything needed to make it function. All the military bodies come as a "kit" with everything...
ONE of your SPRING BRAKE rubbers is leaking, what you here is air leaking into the vent system, the easiest way to find which pot is leaking is to remove the vent line from the pots, then see which POT is leaking air, DO NOT check the line because the939s use a common vent system.
