1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I was looking and cleaning some light dirt out of the bottom of the gate. I came across this spring from the driver and lock cylinder. I went back upstairs and dug out my second last GM rear window seal. I have 1 left for my Little Red M1009 project. This seal fit like a glove after being in...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

My goal has been met. I wanted the gate glass in and everything in the gate operational and complete. It took a lot longer than I had planned but I hadn't planned or prepared myself for all the cleaning and rebuilding as I went. That's the only way to do it. No half fast work being done. Handle...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

After installing the crank onto the gate and reinstalling the rebuilt guides/tracks I was onto the regulator. The roller guides had been greased but the grease was dry like dirt /concrete. I scrapped and wire brushed everything clean. The rollers of the regulator arms were seized and I was able...

    Starter issue

I would say it was going out long before that incident. Unless you were bearing down cranking on weak batteries the stock system works just fine. Many have starting issues and people tend to over crank them and that leads to starter system failures. Fix the long cranking start issue and all...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

After everything was greased and oiled I reassembled the crank and the thing works amazing. Remember to take your time clean thoroughly lube every part. These black gate latches are getting hard to come by. I was fortunate to find this but when I did I remembered I had it. I am uncovering many...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Well today I went right back at it. lost an hour and was late for everything again. Sneaky way of staying home. I found a really nice rear gate crank never been painted or beat on. It was completely intact and just required some R & R. I disassembled the entire crank assembly and cleaned...

    Starter issue

Could it be a shim is required on the starter? It could get engaged and have too much pressure on the gears to become unengaged. I never done the other thing you mentioned. If its going to fail it will fail. Trust me on that. Nothing is infallible. But I say you are onto something getting the...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I did manage to find the 3" fiberglass slats that a member here needs for his HMMWV project. I must have sold these slats 3-4 times for $50 and no one ever showed up for them or provided any address or money. Tired of talking about them and cut them to fit for FREE. I still have many CUCV troop...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Today started out a lot colder than I wanted to work out in but I gave it a try. I worked my Honda tractor out of the garage and into the shed. That was move in the right direction. While it was cold and I had the time I unpacked and closely inspected my Taiwanese replacement outside mirrors...

    CUCVRUS Repair Projects

A little side tracked from my goal due to outside temperatures I thought I could free up some space in the shop and get my Honda tractor out of the way. First I need to refill the oil. that helps since I drained it last month. I took one odd QT I had in the cabinet and was going to combine it...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I made a purchase of the LMC Flat Glass black mirrors. They seem to be as original as possible. I am not a huge fan of the knock off parts but at this point I am trying for quality parts. these are better than the ones with the rubber mounted glass. They also appear to be well made and are "Made...

    Odd M1028 bed

did Bubba know to install a diesel drain tube in the back of the block to keep fuel from getting onto the clutch disc & causing premature slippage? Good question but Bubba may have been good enough to not allow diesel fuel leakage in the first place. Bubba said "If it leaks fix it." And I had...

Finally Part of the CUCV Family

Good Deal. I like it. If I can help out let me know. I am at Exit 90 of I 81. My first word of advise. Don't hack it. Everything works as designed. As long as it is maintained. I mean they lasted 35 years + - and now when they go into private hands they get hacked to death. I see lots of them...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Today after work it was such a nice day I decided to get a few things completed or started. Depends on how you look at it. I hung the rear gate glass sash from the tree and painted it. I clean and paint everything I work on. No point in assembling rusty dirty parts. I set out my new rear gate...

Turn signal will not work all of a sudden

I had this happen a few weeks back. I pulled the fuses and put them back in and they magically worked again. Did you try switching the flashers top to bottom and vice versa? Worth a try. Or put the incandescent bulbs back in and see if it works. Good Luck. Seem simple enough.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Might I add I stored the glass and several other parts in an S280 shelter that I have. It is like a green house inside and always makes things rusty/moldy. I never see water inside but it is sweating, tight and damp. Not a very good place to store things. Northside of a barn under a big tree. It...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

This afternoon the Glass company came by and was going to install my windshield for me into the M1009 project. I had the rubber all clean and the brand new windshield that I had stored for 10 years and tiptoed around all that time turned out to be scrap. I guess I could have used it but it was...
