    CUCVRUS Repair Projects

After several weeks of on and off turn signals working and not working on the 1987 M1028 I decided the time was to make the discovery of the issue. I used the test light a probed all the fuses that pertained to lighting. The turn fuse on the mid side left on fuse box seems to be the issue. It...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Things are moving along at a crawl with the current COV19 situation being on top of the priorities. I do have plan for getting a few things completed over the weekend on my current project. I hope all are well and safe. Take care and be safe. I hope to post my progress as it happens.

    12/24v confusion

WOW. I would find a complete uncut CUCV wiring harness and un cobble the current mess you have. That or get a stock truck and do a side by side comparison of what has been hacked and what can remain as it is. It sounds like a few things could be a mess and you could have a fire potential if you...

    Fuel filter drain leaking

You are telling of several leaks. I have corrected the filter base leaks several ways. 1.) I replaced the pressure switch because it was leaking. Most times it was the original one and I felt it lasted 30 years a new second design one will last 30 years or more. 2.) I removed the base and...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Yea I am just having a heavier work load due to call offs for CODIV19 fears. Anytime an excuse comes up it gets used no matter what. Weekends seem to be working out well. I am waiting for parts again.

Difference between hydro and vacuum brake pedal assembly?

I have an OEM bell housing if you or anyone wants to buy one. It is the Hydraulic one. Unfortunately the rest of the truck is gone to the shredder.

Difference between hydro and vacuum brake pedal assembly?

My friend still has all the linkage and parts we removed from the bone yard truck. It is available. I ask him to give me a price and if he has everything. I seem to think he does. I will keep you advised. It is the old school clutch. No Hydraulic.

Difference between hydro and vacuum brake pedal assembly?

That I know he does NOT have. I was at the YOUPULLIT when we cut all the parts from the frame with a Sawzall. So I know he has the old bell crank setup and I had new bellhousing balls. I still have the hydraulic clutch bell housing for the Chevy truck. I will sell that but as far as other pars...

Difference between hydro and vacuum brake pedal assembly?

I am currently checking with a friend. He did the stick conversion and was quick to switch it back. I sent him a text to see if in the unlikely event he would still have the pedal and linkage parts. His was a manual bell crank clutch no hydraulic. The low gear was too low and hi was the same as...

Difference between hydro and vacuum brake pedal assembly?

I would be lying to say I even knew. Do what you have to do. Find a stick shift truck in a salvage yard and go at it and salvage every part. I could tell you what year or model them pedals came from or would fit into. With an idea and a welder just about anything can be made to work. I stay as...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Heat the drum around the hub eccentric and then give it a whack. I guess M1009 K5 Blazer is what you are working on. Good Luck. When you put it back together brush some never seize on the axle face and flange. Always works for me. Don't chrome it just a small amount goes a long way.

    Vent Window Question

Right now I am elbow deep in overhauling 2 sets of the vent windows and the vent window latches. I used a finishing nail to drive the roll pin from the latch handle. I may visit the hardware store and check if an 1/8" roll pin punch will fit. I have a 1/16" punch and that is to small and flimsy...

Difference between hydro and vacuum brake pedal assembly?

That looks like it will work. The push rod to the hydro-boost hooks up the same way. Not 100% positive but it looks the same.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

The bucket soaking and scrubbing method worked out pretty good for the windshield rubber. While it was soaking I sat and cooked a few fresh catfish. I spent the entire day on the patio cleaning and working on CUCV window parts. After the windshield rubber was clean and suited me I left it lay in...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I have the windshield rubber soaking in HOT soapy Simple Green water for about an hour. I am going out to give it a final scrubbing. I will report back with pictures. it has been a busy weekend and the weather is great. Despite the toilet paper shortage. I never figured that one out yet. I will...

    CUCVRUS Repair Projects

Grabbed a pair of fuel tank saddles that were cut. The saddles were great shape and the straps are about $20 and easily replaceable. That stuff is all nice trading stuff. Take care. I am going back out to play.

    CUCVRUS Repair Projects

With the wonderful Spring like weather I wanted to continue keeping ahead and cleaning up around the barn and barn yard. I had the right rear 1/4 bed panel that I chopped for the 1987 M1028. I wanted to eliminate the unusable parts and lighten the load for storage. I unbolted the floor section...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Today like most Saturdays I get all side tracked and am multi tasking. I had to make a trip to the YOUPULLIT and it turned out to consume all morning and did not find the part I was looking for. I did however find a nice near perfect 6.2 diesel radiator. That was worth the trip. I am going to...

    M1008 starter issue

What issues are you having with the starters? Are the starters 12 Volt? And do the batteries have sufficient cold cranking amps? Get the batteries load tested and make sure you have a 12 starter and it is wired properly. I had a customer bring me his CUCV truck with starter problems and he had...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Less expensive to get a TH400 overhauled. That SM465? is not made for a CUCV. Way to low of gearing. I had a friend go that way and hated the truck after that. But I wouldn't just put a used transmission in it. Get it gone over at a competent shop first, Never look back. the days of good old boy...
