Official 2013 SS Georgia Rally Info SSGR13 thread

I-77 in Virginia is seven miles of a five percent grade, which can get exciting going down, or a real drag going up. West Virginia is where the tolls come in. I've only done that route in my rice burner and paid the minimum tolls. It is the most direct route between my house and Camp Perry.

    Soft Top repair or replace?

Posted these pics in another thread a couple of years ago. This is the problem with starting new threads - information is scattered around in a bunch of places. Well, I can see them in my 'Manage Attachments" (file images 'Soft-top-1.jpg, Soft-Top-2.jpg, and Soft-Top-3.jpg') but I can't...

A3 master cylinder removal tips please

I managed to get to the last (frameside) upper bolt using a 9/16 deep well, pushed by a 6" extension, with a universal on top of that and another 6" extension to get it out far enough for the ratchet handle to work. But mine was a single circuit brake master. I went in through the round hole...

    Rebuilding Clutch Pressure Plate ?

Four finger style is the older type, three is the latest version. To rebuild, you would need to find a donor 'finger' to replace the one that broke. Cheaper and faster to buy a new plate.

Replacing Deuce air tanks/Hints and Suggestions please.

If it has a pinhole that has come all the way through, there are probably thousands of others just waiting their turn. Replacing the tanks will entail far less work.

    Working on the MKT

Flexible hose comes out horizontally from the fan, takes a 90 degree turn down to the floor, where it takes another 90 degree turn to plug into the stainless floor level vent assembly that is installed on the stainless counter/M-59 range side of the MKT. Fan and hose will partially block access...

    Working on the MKT

Vent fan attaches to a pole/brace that goes from the middle rail out to the side, just hangs on the hooks. And the vent fan outlet is supposed to go into a flexible hose that goes down to the stainless pipe that runs from where the power outlet is down to the M-59 ranges along that side of the...

    Soft Top repair or replace?

TNJMurray has the "C" channel per another post. Vinyl siding and pop rivets worked for me and will work till I upgrade to a hard top (my pictures are in another thread, if you're really interested, you'll find it).

Bought an M36a2, eventual Crew Cab build.

An M-36 does not take a whole parking lot, just half, to turn around. Actually the wheelbase is only about 2.5-3 feet longer than the deuce, but the tailgate is usually in the next county. It's better than the 814, where the tailgate is in another time zone.

Bought an M36a2, eventual Crew Cab build.

The M-36 I have has a regular LDT-465, not the LDS version, so, No, it does NOT have the more powerful engine. Some might because there was a need for an engine swap, and an LDS was handy, while the LDT's were not. Anything can (and probably did) happen.

    Bunk Trailer for FRFS

Gus, I'm using two inch solid foam in the walls and ceiling, with 'Great Stuff' in the 2" square tube, 3/4 inch foam below 1/2 plywood on the floor, and probably some foam boards under the floor held on by glue/undercoating and clips. If I like the way it turns out, I'll probably re-do the...

    Bunk Trailer for FRFS

Got the second coat of primer on this morning. Started patching the holes in the floor with undercoat. May pick up the two inch foam tomorrow and the Behr paint. Monday will be painting the outside and putting the Cool-Seal on the roof (weather permitting). Then the A/C and some of the...

Official 2013 SS Georgia Rally Info SSGR13 thread

If all of Adam's trucks wind up with drivers, remember, I need to get two vehicles there, because the MKT operation takes two trailers, one to cook in and one to clean up. And, I'm hoping to have the FRFS Bunk Trailer done by then, and it will need a truck and driver at minimum. So, plenty of...

    Bunk Trailer for FRFS

Picked the trailer up this afternoon and got the first coat of Rustoleum primer on the walls. Hole in the front is for the A/C. Weather permitting, it will get another coat tomorrow and then be allowed to 'cure' for three days before we get the Behr paint out. I'll also need a taller ladder...

    Working on the MKT

Deck latch looks like ones I have on a few of the MKT's around here. There was an early type and a later type, and I've forgotten which is which.

complete engine overhaul including head gaskets

Have you come up with new poppet valve push rods yet? As someone said earlier, it's likely that there is something wrong in the head if the same cylinder has bent a push rod twice. BTW, I only have 347 new push rods left, $2.50 each plus the ride, or $25 for a set of 12 plus the ride.

    Behr paint test.

it will take a minimum of three weeks for the paint to dry, longer if it is humid. Where you are located is generally regarded as very humid. Give it another three to four weeks and report back (or read one of the dozen or so threads that have already dealt with this same subject).

Replacing / refinishing old Cargo Cover Bow Sides

Standard USGI fiberglass ones are 15/16 x 2 3/8 x 45 inches. There were some longer ones made for the cargo covers with the additional skirt sewn on, but I don't have any of them.
