Securing trucks for Civilian Usage - how to?

There is NOTHING that can not be stolen if someone wants it bad enough, If you are that worried, sleep in the darn truck, If they shoot you and take the truck, you will have more to worry about (if you live) then the truck.

    M936 rear winch sear pin

I can see rear shear pin breakage, not from overload but from slamming the winch into forward or reverse with the rpm UP instead of easing it in THEN raising the rpm, this WILL break or at least CRACK the shear pin which WILL fail when used.

    Who Bought Those Oshkosh MK-48s???

To time the drive, the front u-joint caps that are attached to the shaft needs to match the clocking of the u-joint caps that are attached to the MATING FLANG. After the mating flanges are connected, the front D/S becomes a TWO u-joint D/S, and like any two u-joint D/S need to be in time.

    Who Bought Those Oshkosh MK-48s???

In a few places the-10 talks about when separating the two units, MARK the makeup drive line flange so things could go back the same as taken apart, if this was not IMPORTANT, the -10 would not make a point of this three or four times, the ONLY reason to STRESS the drive line marking would be to...

    Who Bought Those Oshkosh MK-48s???

You will get a lot of wear turning at a stand still, once moving even going slow will GREATLY lessen that wear, going at a decent speed, there will be very little wear

    Winch cable

If you can keep the fiber core well lubed either cable will work, the 108 can not break either cable, if lubing is a problem then steel core

    Winch cable

The OE is 1/2" 9x16 IPS, fiber core, not sure on the length, think 95', I would get longer, better to long and cut to fit, then to short.

    Winch cable

Not sure what crane your brother in law ran but I have been running cranes from about 1961, ALL used steel core, one reason is the steel core is stronger for the size then fiber , another reason is the fiber core WILL suck MOISTURE if it (fiber core) is not kept WELL lubed, this causes INSIDE...
